I am currently teaching middle school social studies at a poor Catholic school and trying to move into a public high school. I actively read the thread on visiting principals and decided that I would visit one today!

    Here is what happened:

I walked up to the secretary and said "Hello, I'm cjven and I had applied for the social studies position that was available and I was wondering if Mr. P was available to answer a few questions?"

    wait:wait

"He'll be with you in one moment."

    wait:wait:wait

Mr. P walks out. "Hi, Mr. P, what can I do for you?"

I told him I was interested in the social studies position and that I talked to the secretary at the district office and she said that you had started interviewing but not hired anyone yet. I proceeded to tell him how the art teacher at this school is a good family friend and suggested that I come in and talk with you.

"Well, the first position has been filled but there is another opening that we are still interviewing for. Do you have a completed file at the district office?'

I told him that I did and that I went to the pre-screening interview in February and talked with Mr. S. I brought up that I had student taught at the high school and had observed Mr. S (former social studies teacher) classroom when he was still teaching and enjoyed seeing him again.

"I'll talk with Mr. S about that then."

I asked if he would like a copy of my credentials and he said that he would so he wouldn't forget to call Mr. S.

I thanked him for his time and walked out.

It only lasted about two minutes but I think I made all of points (student taught there, etc.).

I'll let you know if I get an interview!

Thanks for all the great advice:thumb::thanks:

That's great! Too many people wait for the phone to ring. Be proactive, not reactive.
