If you don't know, Chantix is a prescription for quitting smoking. I "successfully" quit smoking 3 years ago (for just over a year) using Chantix, and it was fairly easier than I expected, so I'm really hoping for that again. I'm tired of smoking ruling my life.... I chose this upcoming Monday as my official quit date - it's the first day of inservice and I hope the change of pace will motivate me and keep me distracted. Wish me the best!
YAY! I tried Chantix a couple of months ago. I quit for three weeks... I had an allergic reaction to the Chantix (a rash). Grr. It really did work wonderfully... Good luck!
Did you get nauseous from it? Since I've taken it before I kinda know what to expect. Each dose made me feel so gross about a half hour after taking it. I hate that!!!!!
YES. It wasn't bad when I was still taking the 1mg dose. When it went up to 2mg, I was nauseous for about an hour afterwards. And the rash went away when I dropped down to only 1mg... but that wasn't enough to keep me from smoking. My dad thinks I should try it again - that maybe the rash was "coincidental" (sigh. And he's a pharmacist!)
Good luck to you! :2up: As for the nausea, could you take it at bedtime and sleep through the icky feeling? I do that with my vitamin since it makes me feel a little queasy.
Good Luck!!!!!!!! I took Chantix a few years ago and had to quit taking it because of the anxiety it caused me. So I did not successfully quit smoking I'm jealous I can't take it becausse I really want to. It does make it a lot easier to quit smoking! Doing it now during the change of pace is a good idea! I wish you luck and I will be thinking of you! Hang in there!
Try taking a half dose of Dramamine with your medication. I've seen that work for diabetics having trouble with Byetta. Just a thought. You can do eeet!
Good luck! DH has quit cold turkey twice, but it didn't last. He is thinking about trying Chantix. I hope it works for you! Beth
If that doesn't kick the habit, you could always try one of those electronic cigarrettes. I always laugh at the commercial, especially the part where the older lady falls asleep with it in bed. Good luck and congrats!
Tons and tons of luck!!!! One of my old co-workers successfully kicked his smoking habit when he took Chantix. He wanted to quit before his first child was born. I can't hear or read about electronic cigarettes anymore without thinking of that Allison DuBois chick from the dinner party episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Anyway, good luck Pisces!!! You can do it!
UPDATE: I'm entering my 4th week without a cigarette...well, I did slip up a few times, but I feel GREAT!
Good job! I quit cold-turkey. It will be 3 years in February. I quit the week after my papa's death. It wasn't t his big decision. I remember driving home from my Papa's and Grandma's house and deciding that the pack I had would be my last. I just took it one day at a time and took out the temptations...like stopping at a gas station. I would always stop to buy cigs but instead of going in, I paid at the pump. Not only did i save money from not buying any cigarettes, I was not buying a coke here or a snack there. What helped me the most was taking it day by day. Eventually, that turned into a week...a month... a year, etc. I am still tempted to this day to go and have a smoke but I know that the Good Lord helped me to quit and I don't want to start back over. It also helped that I wasn't a heavy smoker and I was on my fifth year....and as a teacher, I couldn't smoke during the day. However, I knew if I didn't quit soon I was on the fast track to smoking more and more. Keep up the great work!
My ex husband took Chantix and it caused awful side effects for him. He ended up passing out and getting horrible headaches. Has anyone ever tried the zyban pill to quit smoking? (It's also the antidepressant wellbutrin.) I do know a few people that have had success with that pill.
