The Principal just called me to see if he can get a few more references from me. (He was having some problems getting some folks on the phone due to varying work schedules.) I was able to connect him to a military friend right away who's known our family since the late 80s and told him he would most likely get ahold of my former bio/chem lab boss from the College of Lake County tomorrow morning. (She's almost ALWAYS at work and rarely misses a work day due to illness.) So, I'll be good to go onc he gets ahold of my second reference and my first day will be Monday. {dances}
It's about freaking time, I told you you had a great resume! I knew it would happen for you eventually!!!!!!!!! *Everyone do the happy dance*
I'll be a Library Assistant. Mainly tech support and keeping tabs on the supplies (like paper, ink cartridges, and what have you) more than anything else, but I'll also be expected to oversee kids coming in to take computer tests on the books they read for their reading program so they don't cheat (apparently some try), help at currculation from time-to-time, help shelve books, help create bulletin boards (they have several in the library since the school used to be K-8th, it's K-5 now), and, at times, even be expected to help the other Assistant who works directly with the classes who come in. I guess it was just a matter of finding someone I clcked with, much like the Teacher at the Catholic School I went to for the part-time Pre-K TA position. Evidentally, this Principal liked me so much and was just as disappointed as I as that I didn't get the 1st Grade TA position that he went the extra mile for me with this job instead of having them open it up to the general public. HMMM... Can't help but wonder if my 'THANK YOU' card may have helped too.
Elizabeth, my sister did that exact thing in Lake Zurich. She enjoyed it and did it for several years. Well, an opening came up in the same school for a school nurse. She is an RN and decided to take that job because she got to stay in that school, knows the kids and can actually use her nursing degree. Congrats......I bet you will really enjoy it, too!
That's exactly what I'm hoping for with this job. I really like the district and the folks at this school. They're really nice and caring all-around. I can only imagine what a full-time position with them would be like.
Actually, it looks like I'll be going in tomorrow afternoon for some on-the-job training fromt he gal who's vacating it for the 1st Grade position. I'll then work out my actual work schedule with the librarian and see if she wants me to come in on just mornings, just afternoons, or a combination of each.
Elizabeth, congratulations, I am so happy for you! Your perserverence definitely paid off!!! Take it one day at a time and enjoy the ride!
Congratulations, did you get into a Montessori School I know thats what you were looking for or did you get into a public school. Either way CONGRATULATIONS and GOOD LUCK!!!!
I just wanted to let everyone know that my training went well and I think I'll be able to pick up most of it relatively quick. I'll be heading back tomorrow for additional training and then start on my own this Monday. And boy, am I really excited about this. I get MY OWN desk, my own ID badge (to let me in the school), and MY VERY OWN E-Mail address! Not to mention, a steady flow of K thru 5 kids to interact with throughout my work day! Funny, the gal I'm taking the place of was intially applying for the Currculation Clerk position when she was turned around and offered the position I'm taking over. Guess it goes to show that others who are still unemloyed shouldn't really give up hope. This can and will work out if you just have a lot of patience and a little faith.
Congratulations! Make time to celebrate this weekend and good luck Monday! Although, you ultimately want to teach, know that every step of the way, you are learning more and more and that eventually you're time will come and you will be the teacher you dreamed yourself to be.
I started early as a matter of fact. We went out tonight and by the end of dinner racked up a $45+ dollar bill. (My grandfatehr and I had steak and my mom had scallops.) It's my lucky weekend because my grandfather's 84th birdthday is this Sunday so we'll be going out to celebrate that too! I'm very excited about Monday and was told by the Assistant Principal that I'd have everything I need on Monday (at least she hoped I would). P.S. -- This is a VERY secure school and key cards are needed to get past the Principal's office where the K wing, gym, and lunchroom is and then into the library (which is sanwhiched between the 1st-3rd wing and 4th and 5th wing of the building. Not to mention, they're just down the road from the county Sherriff's office. So, I feel extremely safe at this school.
Congratulations, Elizabeth_1977!! You're an inspiration to us all!! I will keep you in my prayers on Monday!
I'm definitely looking forward tomorrow. I head over to HR after work to do my W2s, teacher retirement forms, and whatnot so it can't get anymore exciting than that!
Library Job Hooray Congradulations on the new position! You have looked so hard and I am thrilled for you. I am sure you will really enjoy working in the library. At some point you might want to work at a high school but enjoy your new job and keep us posted. Terry G.
