Has this ever happened to anyone else? It's awful the way we never get to use the bathroom. Teachers should demand duty-free bathroom time during the day. Have you ever had a "close call"?
OH MY GOD!!!! LOL!!!! I just had that happen to me at home the other day (I'm 7 months prego) and I thought all night about what I would do if it happened at school. But, in adding to the story, I did pee my pants once in high school. I was in a play, and someone threw a bottle in a dramatic moment (in the play) but it bounced instead of breaking. It struck me as so funny... and I lost it. But I had a checkered long skirt, and I managed to make it off stage before anyone saw.
haha... i'm sorry but that really made me laugh (i hope not to your embarassment zoe!) i am with you on the duty free bathroom issue... at the school i taught at in VA there were many days where i did not get a break from my students... there were times when i thought i would surely pee my pants. worse there was a week in the year when i got hit with a bad stomach virus making me run for the bathroom for other reasons (sorry if that's too much info) anyhow since i never knew if i would have a chance to use the bathroom quickly i decided to take a few days off during that period of time.
YES! It's sad too because I always new I was getting older, but I just didn't know I needed diapers! Ha ha ha!! Kelly
If you've ever had a baby, this has probably happened to you. Better start doing those Kegel exercises, LaProfessora!
I used to take my students on a "fieldtrip" to the bathroom with me when i just couldn't wait and the teacher next door wasn't in her room. They had to sit outside the door and wait for me. Luckily being a self-contained teacher I usually only had 3 students waiting for me not 21. I also ate lunch with them so I did not get to go over lunch and we did not have a morning recess .
When I was preggers it was so ridiculous that I literally would walk to the front of the store and by the time I got there I had to go to the back of the store to pee again (several times in a row) before I could leave the store. I also had an accident in a parking lot once of the behind kind. (That sounded funny!) We are fairly lucky that most of the time there is 2 adults in the room and/or someone else from another room we can grab. Of course if it is that close of a call, even doing that would take too long. Working in a classroom has actually streghtened my bladder because after kids I just went to the bathroom all the time. My sister was so frustrated with me on a 9 hour trip one time because it took us waayyy too long to get there because I was stopping to pee so much (darn car vibs). She noticed a difference when I started working for a school because I can hold it for much longer periods of time now. I have a schedule. I use the bathroom before I leave home, after recess (10am) and then I'm good to go until school is dismissed most of the time. My biggest problem is I have IBS. Most of the time this translates to constipation. Well, when I need to go, it takes me a long time to go. Because I don't have that kind of time I have to sometimes just hold off and that makes it worse. Lately, less common, I've been having the opposite problem and now that I've replied to this post I'm sure I will be jinxed now.
During the first week of school and during testing (4 times per year) we have NO breaks! Going from 8am until 12:30 without using the bathroom, or from 12:50 until 3:45pm without using the restroom is sooooo hard! Some days, it is 8am until 3:45pm! Heaven help you if there is a line for the ONE adult restroom in our part of the building! There have been many times I've HAD to leave the class (asking a neighboring teacher to keep an eye on things) and make a quick run. I hate doing it, but I can't take 20 students with me. I can make it to the restroom and back in 2 minutes flat! (if there is no line.) The last thing I always say to the children is: if the fire alarm goes off, you start walking down the hall and I'll catch up to you, and if the intercom goes off, DON'T answer it! I hate to do it, but nature calls!
I used to have to go all the time-so I'm surprised I can make it at school. My kids go to specials at 10:30, I have lunch at 11:45, and recess at 1:45-so it's pretty good spacing. After I finished student teaching, I was substituting at the Junior High. I had to go until 1:00 without a bathroom break. I had to pee SO bad! There was only 5 minutes between classes, and kids started coming in the minute the bell rang, so I didn't want to run to the bathroom! I think it would be even worse at the high school, because they have 90 minute classes here. I was lucky when I student taught, because my teacher didn't care if I ran out of the room for a minute-and the bathroom was right across the hall!
OMG! This happens to me occasionally...not because I haven't had time to get the the bathroom, but because I'm getting to "that age." I need to get back to doing my Kegels, too, I guess.
Being 6 months preggers doesn't help me much! There are times when I just have to run out of the class saying, "BE GOOD!" The kids just laugh and when I come back ask me if I made it in time. I have a class of all girls so they understand.
I've gotten pretty good at holding my pee. There have been a few times where I just can't hold it. I will ask the teacher next door to watch my class. Other times I just use the bathroom in my classroom, which is for the kids, but it's clean. I'll put a student "in charge" of the rest of the class and pray that administration doesn't come in while I'm in there. I don't do it too often, though, because afterwards the kids always giggle that they heard me pee, which they think is hilarious.
We don't have a separate restroom for teachers, which makes it kind of weird sometimes. It usually is not a problem. Today though I just had to go before the beginning of third period and I was leaving the restroom one of my students came out of the restroom at the same time. She said I tried to tell you that I had to go the bathroom but I couldn't find you anywhere! But I just can't go in there when there are a lot of students in there!
I've always been told that teachers are the most likely to get bladder infections due to the fact that they are not allowed to go to the bathroom as frequently as needed. I wonder how many other professions have this problem!
don't laugh. :woot:..I am a regular Poise customer ...think is is common with age. Seems like I can make it in time, and get dribbles when I stand up! I know.. too much info!
can't find them! I think they are broken... and I didn't even have regular delivery... had C-section! almost 25 yrs ago! I know...way 2 much info...:sorry:
Anybody can do the Kegels and benefit! And you can benefit in more than one way! :2up: kegels, kegels, kegels!
I am in a portable...heaven forbid if I need to go to the restroom...I have no chance between 7:30 and 12:40 my lunch time...then my lunch is so short I have to usually choose to finish lunch or to go to the bathroom....sometimes I can't go at all in one day. Once I had to go so bad I had to call the office to send someone to my room so I could go. :sorry:about what happened to you.
Like clockwork OMG! My body has adjusted so much to my school schedule that I have to schedule my life around my bathroom breaks. God forbid there is a change in my schedule next year but it's been the same the last two years. I've wanted to sleep in on the weekends but I can't anymore because at 7:40 I MUST got to the bathroom. I've had many a close call so now I don't have a drop to drink besides 1 cup of coffee until after lunch which is my first free moment (7:40am to 1:30pm). Ughh. I'm always jealous of the kids who can pee whenever the notion hits their heads! Ha ha! This is so funny!
It's a good thing you can call the office. We can't. Maybe in the new building they can put in phones with tty's but the secretary isn't always in her office. But then again, in a TRUE emergency we can page our boss with all of our hand held phone/pda/pagers we have floating around. We have to hope she answers fast enough. As it is right now we are right across the hall from each other and most classrooms have 2 adults (aides) in them so if we don't have that second adult in our room, we can pull someone elses for a short time. This is a good setup. I hope we never have to resort to portables.
This has happened to me a few times I cannot believe that I am going to admit this on a forum read by thousands of people but I am only 35 and this has happened a few times to me. I had several surgeries as a child and as a result my muscles in that area of my body have never been that strong. What I have started doing is I wear a pantyliner so if I do leak before I get to a bathroom I can at least get rid of the odor. When I first started subbing I was in a district where teachers would leave the room to run to the bathroom and leave a responsible person in charge to take names of students who were talking. In the threee districts I sub in now we are not allowed to leave the students unattended for any amount of time. Luckily about 80-90 of the classes I sub in have a student who has a para with them so if I really needed to go then I could. Mldouglas
I'm telling you guys...try Poise... they work. I told my doctor, and he wanted to give me some drugs. I got the sample, but after reading the possible side effects, I didn't bother taking them! I like Poise pads because they are little bit more than regular sanitary pads, but not as bulky. Pantyliners don't have the strong plastic backing that prevents leaks. Poise does. They are descreet, and easy to use like a pad. Serenity is another brand. To save money, I tried the store brand. went back to Poise. here is their website... http://www.poise.com/
I'm sorry you all have to suffer like this. Urine needs to be voided, otherwise it festers and causes infection. May I ask a very personal question? What do you girls do during your cycle? I'm shuddering at the thought! I posted previously that I was diagnosed with urethritis. I shouldn't wear tampons, but do when I will be somewhere for any length of time. I can't imagine having to deal with a menstrual cycle on top of not being able to just go urinate!
you are so right..it is the same concern... teachers don't get enough potty breaks stopped wearing tampons years ago...flow wasn't heavy enough, and used to forget they were in there I know, I know..too much info. think they are great for swimming, and fancy, clingly clothes...and that's about it..
Want more fancy info... google gladrags. It's pads you can wash. (making a face). Another issue that bothers me is I sweat too much. I could take botox to the underarm but no thanks. SO I use deodorant multiple times a day. Well that's not as easy for me to remember until I start feeling it. Yikes!
:lol: Yes, I'm a proud customer of GladRags! I ran the link in another thread! ...this is a rerun... we had this same conversation in July... we should just rename this thread... the fabulous 40's!!
Too funny Pre-K. I heard about it here for the first time. Didn't realize it was you. I thought it was funny enough that I literally included it in a work email that went out to all the staff. Hehe. I was sending an email on some good educational links but I warned them that I had to let my sense of humor out first.
when they realize what we are really using them for, I am sure they will triple the price! and probably change the name and re-market them reliables (depends) leak guards fem fresh hey, this may be a part time job for me... look for my picture on their website..another satisfied customer! teachers love leak guards! Holds that flow When you gotta go!
I was actually relieved to have to have a hysterectomy last year!! Teaching and having horrid, heavy flows is not conducive to this career!! It was difficult to do filed trips, meetings, classes, etc...
my last dr said, "you are 48, why not get off the pill and just get your tubes tied!" Then, you will get the night blindness, sweating, mood swings, and other symptoms of menopause soon. Then, I could presecribe you some hormone replacement threapy to help you with that! Or, I could stay on the pill and dodge menopause as long as possible! glad you are ok Zoe I didn't want to have any surgery I didn't need!
I've heard that nurses and teachers have the highest rates of bladder infections. Luckily, we have several teachers in each room, so even when I'm in the classroom, I can go whenever I want. When I was in public schools, we always had an in-class toilet (yes, it was child-sized, but it worked). When I was an infant teacher, all by myself, I had a bathroom that was essentially a storage closet in my room. I had to call the director to come in my room so I could go. If she wasn't there, or if I was tired of her huffing and puffing because she had to come in my room, then I would just get the kids situated, lock my classroom door, and go REALLY quickly.
