This morning I went to see my principal. The night before, she left a message with her home number, but I was working and couldn't return the call. I felt terrible because I didn't want her to think I was dodging her.

She was so nice about the whole thing, she absolutely gave me her blessing to leave for the neighboring county. I was so relieved! She said everyone has the right to better themselves, and if that's what I needed, she would let me leave with a clear conscience.

Just 10 minutes after leaving her office my phone rang, with an offer from the new school. I will be teaching 2nd grade :) I applied for 1st, but perhaps he sees me as a better fit, coming from 3rd, and I can respect that.

Now I can make plans to move closer to my new job (it's 65 mi each way) and start getting excited about teaching again. Last year really drained me, and I was in desperate need of a change.

The only piece of bad news is the timing...again. He said that HR is swamped and that if I don't hear back by the end of the month, I should contact him again. He gave me no suspicion whatsoever that the job isn't mine. Sounds like a formality, but I asked for time from my current principal. She is going to mull it over and talk with our HR about a possible timeline. So my principal was very understanding twice today.

I'm just so thankful everything worked out!!

    Yay! :)

So you won't resign until you've signed with the new district, and it could still be a month before HR gets that together? That seems like a really difficult situation for your will-be-former school in terms of them hiring a replacement. Or am I reading it wrong?

That is wonderful! Communication really helps every situation. Congrats on the job. I am so glad your current P was so understanding...Twice! Keep us updated on all your changes. I am changing to a new school too, so I am right there with you in the same boat. I'm starting to get a little nervous, in fact, now that I only have about 2 weeks before I start.

    Congrats!

When I got hired, it took about a month and a half before HR had my paperwork ready. The principal sent me a letter of intent to hire, though, that I had to sign and return. That way, I knew that I had a job, and they knew that I wasn't going to walk away on them. Could your new principal do something like this?

Kate, what a good idea. I'll see what my current P has to say about a timeline and make a decision from there

This will also be great news for someone who was hoping for an opening at your soon-to-be former school. That opportunity is now there for the interviewing.
