to make my list of 30 classroom jobs complete (yes I'm insane having 1 job per student) I need 1 more job.

Here's what I have so far:

6 Cashier - processes money for bake sales, and tasty tuesday tickets

7 Tour guide - explains to student teachers, and guest substitute teachers about the areas of the classroom

8 Job Board Manager - informs the next in command of their job if the first in command is absent

9 Welcome Wagon - helps special speakers, new students and substitute teachers feel welcome, also answers a "knock" at the door

10 Equipment Manager - manages the equipment binder, inflates equipment, and "brands" the class name on new equipment

11 Hand in checker - checks the hand ins for "no-names" and completes a checklist of those who handed things in

12 Class Captain - thanks special guests, and helps out in "mock crisis situations" (fire drill, lockdown etc.) fills in for absent student jobs

13 Homework Board updater - updates the homework board at the close of each lesson

14 Pass it out person - hands out pages to the class, and puts 5 copies in the extra copies bin before handing back to the teacher

15 Class Librarian - writes the due dates on the due dates board and reminds students the day before books are due

16 Token counter - double checks counted tokens for accuracy, counts out tokens with the banker on payday

17 Banker - cashes paycheck for tokens on payday

18 Scrap magnets - inform students of scrap papers under their desks, and makes sure the class supply of scrap paper is full

19 Environmentalist - brings the recycling to the school recycling center

20 Travel Agent - collects the class's ideas for field trips and researches destinations for times, costs, bus activities

21 Kid Center manager - manages the kid's supply center, informs teacher of damaged items, and keeps it tidy at the end of the day

22 Go Getter - when asked, the student goes and gets something the teacher requests (go get a mop, go get a basketball, etc)

    23 Gardener
    - tends to the needs of our tropical indoor plants, monitors cuttings, and seedlings.

24 Aquatic specialist - refills our class supply of filtered purified drinking water

25 Bathroom monitor, after class wash routine, the Bathroom monitor wipes down the sink and counter area of excess water

26 Line leader - leads the line to their destination, and adjusts the "where we are now" sign

27 Door holders - next 3 people in line after the line leader holds the door open, second person holds the second door, etc

28 Caboose - turns off the lights and shuts the class door, while double checking the "where we are now" sign, shuts down computers at end of day

29 Health and safety - tapes cords, holds ladders (if necessary) and makes sure all classroom areas are safe and secure

    30 - ? ? ?

    what should number 30 be???

    Thanks,

    Mr. Skinner :D

Hygenist- passes out paper towels to students to clean desks at the end of the day or after a snack if you have one. Squirts cleanser on each desk. Or passes out clorox wipes. Squirts anitbacterial stuff on kids hands... in charge of keeping the kleenex supply full. Gets a new box if you run out.

Class historian- writes a summary of what happened during the week and it is kept in a journal for the year (I saw this from someone else on this board.)

Lunch Monitor- makes sure the tables are cleaned at lunch, passes out something at lunch

Reporter- reads daily announcements or something similar

Class DJ- Chooses the CD's for different times of day (quiet in am, etc.)

or you could put more than one person at a job
I have two paper passers, messengers, etc.
This gives me more flexibility if kids move away.
Also, I LOVE having a job for each kid. I think it is a great idea to promote a sense of community and responsibility.

    mr. Skinner-
How about someone to wash used transparancies from the overhead projector?

or you can have the caboose just turn off the lights, and have someone else in charge of turning the computers on and off. I call this person my "electrical engineer".

All of the classes I've student taught in have not used overheads (parent complaint) or the overheads for examples are not written on. (example 1, example 2, or step 1, step 2, etc.)

Thanks for the suggestions though, very kind.

Desk Inspector is a job I used. That person is responsible for making sure the desks are clean on Friday. If they think the desk needs cleaned, they write "clean" on a sticky note and put it on that student's desk.

I have a job called "problem solver". The kids love this job and it takes away a lot of "tattling" to me. If someone has a problem in the class, such as, someone said something rude, or someone can't find their pencil, or something small then the problem solver steps in and helps out. You have to explain the difference between a serious problem and one that the students can handle (i.e. someone is physically hurt, saying swear words, threats, etc.) I also use a substitute job, so that if a student is absent, then the substitute takes over for them for the day.

I don't know about your school's recess policies, but at my school we have laundry baskets that the kids but their lunch boxes in at recess. I have a helper that carries the basket to lunch, to the playgound, and back inside. They can usually pick a friend to help them carry the basket. It could be your "Logistics Person". Hope this helps.

    Classroom Jobs

Don't know if it is too late for you to use these but here are some ideas that I will be using this year:
    1. Interior Decorators (2): Assists the teacher in decorating the classroom, changing bulletin boards, displaying class work
    2. Librarian (2): Responsible for keeping class library organized and neat. Checks library for any damaged books
    3. Nurse: responsible for accompanying sick students to the nurse, makes sure that the first aid supplies are well-stocked
    4. Supply Clerks (2): makes sure that classroom supplies are well-stocked (paper, sharpened pencils, paper towels, tissues, sanitizer, etc.)

    Hope that helps...

    I've been Hijacked!!!

Parents have complained about the students not getting enough time to copy the overhead, not getting a detailed summary of the overheads for test review, and not letting the students take them home if they were absent.

I answered all of their problems by saying, Dont copy word for word, I've taught the kids to copy what they need "new information or test stuff". Detailed surrmary??? overheads save paper, otherwise they would be called handouts. and students can take home a friends hand written note, not my curriculum original overheads.

Parents can make me laugh my head off sometimes.

Too funny! :D Don't they get that it's pretty much the same copying info. off the blackboard. I'm planning on using my overhead a lot this year because I have close to 600 students and don't want to make 600 copies. Fingers crossed my parents won't freak out! :)

You'll be fine. Music is a wonderful subject, I loved all 5 minutes of it when I had recorder in Grade 6. (the recorders were passed out and witin 5 minutes someone hit someone else with the recorder like a wand or bat, so they were taken away)
