Does anyone know of a good book to read? I have gotten two in the last couple of months and I had to stop reading them because they were too vulgar. I think they need to put ratings on books like they do on video games and movies! Anyways, what good books have you read?
If you have some time, pick up my all time favorite, Gone With the Wind. I re-read it every few years. I loved the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella-- very light reading.
Read The Outliers and it's one of my new favs. It's non-fiction and about how and why some people suceed and some don't. It's been on the NY Times best-seller list for months. Alice, I love Gone With the Wind, it's been years since I've read it. I may have to reread it during the holidays.
Do you like Nicholas Sparks? The Notebook, Message in a Bottle. Read the Lucky One & the Choice both really good.
I have all of Sparks's books--I really like his new book The Last Song. He wrote the screenplay first, actually, and Miley Cyrus will play the leading role. Miley actually chose the time for the main character, which I hate, but anyhow... His things are also "light", but there is nothing wrong with that. Right? I always sugget The Road to those who haven't read it...but be warned that it isn't quite as light.
I enjoyed the first book of The Number one Ladies Detective Agency. just never got around to picking up any others. I haven't really loved the HBO series though.
I'll have to get that one... Bummer about Miley though... I don't really like her. They are working on the Lucky One film though!!!
Life on the Tenure Track: Lessons from the First Year by James M. Lang was the last book that I read. The book is a memoir of his first year of teaching. I also love Nora Robert's books. If you haven't read any of hers, I would suggest Northern Lights and Hot Ice. They are two of my favorites. But, all of her books tend to pull you into the story.
I love the "Mitford" series by Jan Karon I started reading books by Beverly Lewis. She writes about the Amish in her books.
I recently read Merle's Door which is nonfiction but fun. About a dog rescued by the author. I read 1,000 White Women last week. It was very well written, great characterization, but I am sorry I read it and would not recommend it. Pretty heavy reading. Some of my favorites: Cold Sassy Tree Follow the River A Town Like Alice The Poisonwood Bible
I have to add - The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series is up at the top three of my favorite books ever! I think there are about 11 of them now and of course you would want to read them in order. I also love the Mrs. Pollifax series by Dorothy Gilman. Light reading but fun.
Cecelia Ahern's books are generally easy reads and uplifting/hopeful stories. Love, Rosie had me rolling on the floor crying with laughter.
