I just had to report that I love my new job! I taught 4th grade for the past 4 years at a Title 1 school and just transfered to a middle school, teaching 6th grade Language Arts. Well, it has only been 2 weeks but OMG I LOVE it! The kids are awesome and ready to learn. I feel like I am actually teaching, instead of managing and staying one step ahead of the fights. The teachers here work very hard; the principal reguires 4MAT lessons turned in and curriculum maps and I am so up to the challenge! I'm still not used to grading 150 papers though! I came from a school where too many teachers balked at PD. I hated being in that kind of environment! Anyway, I know there are a few of us new 6th grade teachers so how is it going? Oh I forgot who recommended it, but I color coded the periods and it is working great! THANKS!
I don't start til the 5th and I'm only sorta a "new" teacher. I taught 6th grade for one year two years ago at a different district. I'm so glad to hear that you love 6th. I absolutely loved my first year as well. I was teaching English so I had deal with grading all those papers too! It was really hard but you get used to it. This year I'll have more of a self-contained class where we switch for science and social studies only. So I will have 2 science classes. We'll see which type of set up I like better!.
I'm new too but school doesn't start until the 4th. I previously taught 4th as well and I can't wait to start my new job!
I taught 3 years in 2nd, one 2/3 combo class, (moved back to S. Cal. here after my daughter was born... needed to be near my mom!)1st grade last year and just found out today that I am getting a 6th grade. We start school Monday the 27th and I am FREAKING OUT!!!! This will be a HUGE change for me. It is a 4-6 school and self-contained. Right now, I don't even know where to begin! LOL! I'm so glad to hear that you love it Jojo808 because everyone keeps telling me that I will but I will have to wait and see!!!
