Our (first) word wall words this week are at, I, like, and the. I was thinking on Friday we would make a class book where each student had a page that said "I like the _____" But I am looking for some ideas on a really good theme. Here are my 2 ideas so far:
    1) for snack we could try 3 different colored apples and then write a sentence about which colored-apple they like the best.
    2) We could read a book about seasons and they could tell what season they like best. (anyone know a good book?)

But I am sure there are some better/ more creative ideas out there that would make a fun class book that stars with "I like the ____" Anyone have any good ideas? :)

I like the apple idea. (Hey, I just used your pattern!)

    I like the green apple.
    I like the red apple.
    I like the yellow apple.

That way you can also get color words in your book. I used to do a lot of class books like that.

I think I actually did a book almost exactly like that about the different colors of apples. I had them write their sentence and for their class book page, we did sentence building. I typed out the sentences (had those ready beforehand), cut them apart, and had them paste the sentence back together on their page.

ETA: You could also make a chart and turn the activity into a cross-curricular one!

You could use color words and do a page a day and have them illustrate it too. "I like red _______. (balloons, smiles, cherries etc.)
Next day "I like pink _____ (bubble gum, cotton candy, milkshakes)
You could do a brainstorm every day with a list of 12 words they can choose from on that color of paper. It is fun. Then they make the picture to go with it and color it. Higher kids could add a 2nd sentence, "I also like _______. But my favorite red thing is a _____.
They turn out very cute with the pages all bound together in a cute cover.

If I want to do a quick class book, I'll have the students dictate their page "I like _______" then I send it to the printer and they fetch it. Then they illustrate it and I'll bind it together. So each child has a page and hopefully they are all different.

Our reading specialist gave us this great idea that is similar to what has been mentioned above. If you take a bunch of different stickers that are different colors, you can have them make books that say, "I like_____" to go along with the sticker. For example, page one has a blue car on it and the page would say, "I like the blue car" with the blue car sticker. Next page could be a green car, "I like the green car." green car sticker etc. She made a very cute example with a barbie type sticker that was great.
