I'm really excited! It's for a middle school social studies position. I don't even care what subject it is, as long as I can teach social studies full time!!!

The school district is near the one I'm teaching in now, so the demographics will be really similar, just slightly more rural. Which will be nice. The only thing is that the school is a k-8. I really don't understand the logistics of running a k-8, but that's a question I can ask!

Now, I just have to round up some examples of social studies types of things I've done this year! All my examples are language arts!

Please think massive good thoughts for me! I'd really like to have a job in place before the end of my current school year. I'd hate to have a second psychotic summer between jobs. My husband might commit me.

Use examples of projects you will get the students to do to make social studies real to them,

A journal of a person in a particular time period, using authentic items in authentic jobs during a particular event, like a colonial person during the first year of the Jamestown settlement, etc. Have the kids do research to find out what they are to do.

A timeline project when they go back in time to interview a person in the past

    Recreate the oklahoma land rush

Have students build a pryamid like in ancient Egypt,

Just come up with a topic you like and brainstorm ideas, use those ideas in the interview on how you will set up a lesson (even write a lesson plan for that project that you can put in your portfolio) and you will do fine.

    Good Luck
