How many placements do you do? Teachers here keep telling me that we have a lot.

    We have
    Practicum I (Infant/ Toddler)- 42 hours in 1 class
Practicum II (PreK)- 72 hours between two classes

Elementary Practicum I and II- I believe those are a full day in the classroom each week- I'm going to take them both next fall, so I'll be at an elementary school at least 2 full days a week

And then of course, Student Teaching.

On top of that, most classes require at least 10 hours of observation.

    Danny-

Almost every education class has a practicum attached to it...ranging from 20-30 hours. There are at least 5 elementary (K-6)classes and 6 special education classes (K-12) ( I am a dual major) Then we have Piping (pre-student teaching) which is all day M& W....and then finally student teaching all day M-F.

So we have had a lot of field experience. Do you have any practicums w/ your classes or is it after you have finished your classes?

The practicums are co-requisites paired with a curriculum class.

So, each semester, you have a 3 credit curriculum class, and a 2 credit practicum. Plus whatever other education classes you're taking, which usually have some field experience attatched (usually about 10 hours, but some have had up to 25)

A family friend got her teaching degree at the same college I'm going to, only about 20 years ago. Back then, they had 30 observation hours and then student teaching! Wow, things have changed a lot!
