I accepted an offer yesterday for an early childhood SPED position in my home district! I am so excited and it hasn't even really hit me yet. The school is about 10 minutes away from my house, which is wonderful. I start the first week of August!

Congrats! You'll do great. I have an interview this Thursday in my home district for a SPED position. If you don't mind me asking, what interview questions did they ask you? Also, did you have to do a demo lesson. If so, what did you do? Any information would be great. Did they even ask you about how you went to school there?

    Thank you so much, everyone!!!

Thank you! I didn't have to do a demo. I actually didn't have to a demo for either of the districts who offered me a position. I wonder if that is something they don't do around here?

I mentioned that I student taught in the district and always referred back to the curriculum used and just how familiar I was with the district's EC department.

A few of the questions the principal asked me (it was a two hour interview, but it didn't feel that long!):
    - How do I create a positive learning environment?
    - How do I teach phonemic awareness?
    - How do I incorporate technology?
    - What are two words my colleagues would use to describe me?
    - How do I organize my IEP paperwork?
    - Am I familiar with BIPs?
    - How would I train my paras?
    - If I had an issue with a para, how would I handle it?
    - How do I collect and monitor data?
    - Some questions on parent communication that I can't remember
    - Tell me about a situation that was difficult for you.
    - Tell me what your small group and whole group activities would like.
    - What does your class schedule look like?

I brought my iPad to this interview and demonstrated my ability to use technology to enhance student learning. It really helped with the questions about small group and whole group instruction. I also had a hard copy of my weekly newsletter that I showed her, but I mentioned that I would only send home hard copy newsletters if parents opted out of the online newsletter.

    You'll do great!!

Thanks for the info! I've been ask most of those questions in the past. I'm curious to know how you answered how you collect and monitor data? I always find that hard to explain. Any help would be great! Thanks again!

I create a binder for both my paras and myself. Each student with an IEP will have a tracking sheet with their goal and a table to track data. While I'm teaching (circle, large group, etc), one of my paras will collect data on the students. During centers or small groups, I use my binder to collect data and/or take observations. I keep the binders separated so data isn't repeated and I know I took mine, especially when it comes to academics and peers (number sense, prepositions, etc).

That's pretty much how I answered!
