Congrats - very exciting! I think we need an "I'm jealous" smilie! ;) People can be very generous in sponsoring classrooms.

Did you do anything to advertise your proposal. I've been so tempted to send e-mails to organizations that I know donate. I've had some that would be matched for 1/2 if someone puts up the other half - but they don't get fulfilled in time.

Contrats KU. I also got one funded over the holidays (I put in for it before I went on a leave of absence.) I had one arrive while I was gone, and another one that is just waiting on the donor check to arrive. I'm definetely excited, but wondering where I'll put everything!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! Your kids are going to have a blast!

Yay for you! That is awesome!

I feel so "loser-ish"...I started working on one some time ago, and never finished. I got a bit overwhelmed and stopped working on it. For all of you who have done one...do you have any helpful hints?

Way to go! I had several projects funded over the break as well.

Beezus I always include a strong statement of need, describe the materials so the donor knows how I will use them in the classroom, and tell what the impact will be. I want the donor to believe in the project and feel like I am presenting my case, sort of like a lawyer! I tend to write long proposals and so far so good! You can do it! Good luck!

Congrats--I am glad for you. My husband's company used to fund for Donors Choose but stopped because they do not allow private schools to participate. So know he only funds projects for private schools. He just donated 30 MAC desktops to a local parochial school. I do not understand why Donors Choose discriminates against private school. We have as many needs as public schools. Sorry for the hijack and I am really happy for you!

I had one funded over the holidays as well. This is my 4th one to be funded. I will be getting a water rocket launch, a lunar phase kit, and a couple of small space related items.
For the last 2 that I got funded I made a donation to another teacher. Of course I can't match what I was given, but it just felt right. Both times I searched for teachers who needed less than $100 and had never been funded. I was able to finish off the teacher the first time (she only needed $29), I wasn't able to finish off the one this time, but he's a lot closer.

I just wrote my first proposal and I'm getting ready to write another one. I hope it gets funded! Now I'm worried that I didn't put enough into the proposal! Well, it was my first one so I'll have to make sure I do better next time around.

Is there anything like this for private schools? We have such little money and I would love something like this.

I've got a question. This is not the first time I've read someone mentioning about private schools not having funds . Are these church related schools or what? I'm asking because the private schools I've experienced in Dallas do not have a shortage of funds. First, they have large endowments (in the millions), secondly the tuition runs anywhere from 12,000 - over 22,000 annually, and lastly all have major fundraisers every year that bring in additional hundreds of thousands. Of course, in addition to tuition parents have to buy textbooks, mandatory laptop computer at grade 6, and pay extra for athletic/music/etc. fieldtrips.

I work at a Catholic school and we have very little money. Our textbooks are over 10 years old, and for science we have no equipment at all. If we spend anything, the nuns pay us for it but I feel badly having them pay for it. The church itself is not helpful at all, and does not give us anything.

I just got funded as well! I couldn't believe it when I checked my email tonight to find an email from DonorsChoose.org, which said that all I needed to do was select the room for where the materials needed to go!!

My government class and myself are so thankful that a donor will be supplying our class with brand-new "Animal Farm" and "Lord of the Flies" books. I couldn't be more thrilled!!!

    I'm SO EXCITED!!! :)

    WOW!! That is phenomenal!

I have one up right now (it's been 4-5 days), and am wondering how long it might be (IF it get's funded)
How much was yours for? Mine ended up $411 once they added everything. I'm worried that it is too much!

I too can now join this party. I was AMAZED. I posted on January 3rd, and got a notice today that I was funded. Amazing.

And cooler still... one of the donors is a band member from the group "Air Supply". I thought that was nifty.

Congrats Ron- another IL social studies teacher- alright!!

Beezus - mine was $580, so pretty substantial amount of money. I thought it was a longshot at best.

So, how does this program work? Is it something a homeschooler could look into? There are several sites I'd have loved to subscribe to this year, but the money just wasn't there. It would be dynamite if homeschoolers could be included, or maybe a group of homeschoolers.

I think it is just public schools... You could probably try to find a business to sponsor you, or perhaps you could find a church or group like that.

I had several that were funded within a month, and my most recent one was not funded until it had 2 weeks left. I have 2 up right now. One was posted on Monday, and the other last month. I am hoping they get funded soon!

Congrats on everyone's proposals getting funding! I've had three funded but my most recent expires in a couple of days. Oh well. I've got enough points to do another one...
