I'm so excited! I was offered a position as an English teacher at a middle school 15 minutes from my house. I signed an intent to hire, and it stated that the only condition was approval by the school board. He assured me that this was just a formality, and I would definitely be approved. Does this sound about right?
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!! Yes, that is right. Here in NJ, all positions in public schools (don't know about private) are approved by each School Board at one of their monthly meetings. They are usually held on a certain day of the month, like the last Monday of every month for example. They will announce your name and position and you will be on the meeting minutes. You will probably get a call or letter shortly after the meeting. You can call them to see when the next meeting (which is probably when your name will be read) is or look on the website. A total formality!
Usually a total formality...board members usually approve all positions put in front of them, the only things they ever comment on is the salary level (if its higher than a tenured teacher) or multiple year contract requests (very rare).
