I had an interview yesterday for a full time kindergarten job but I got called today and I was offered a part time art job. I accepted since school starts here in a week. I am nervous, this was unexpected. I almost said no but I decided that it gets my foot in the door and I was told by the principle that this will more than likely turn into a full time position next year. I have mixed feelings about it but I am excited.

It will be pre-K to fourth grade. I am just worried because I am not a good artist lol...I warned them! They still wanted me. I am very creative and craftsy and that is more what they were looking for I guess.

Alright! Congrats! It feels great to be offered a position, doesn't it? More often than not, those part time positions get filled the next year by a new hire and you'll be able to move to full time. :)

    Congratulations!!!
Are you certified in Art? I thought about applying for some of those positions, but I am not certified in Art and like you, I am not a good artist.

Congratulations!! I too took a part time position this year and the principal said it would evolve to full time next year. Like WITeach said, a foot in the door!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! It's great that you got a job. Art teachers don't have to be a great artist. From what I've seen with the students, they'd rather have an art teacher that shows them how to do neat, fun stuff that is more artsy/craftsy than an artist that just knows how to paint! Besides, from a mom's point of view, we love all those cute artsy/craftsy things that our children make. Besides, you have PLENTY of books to get ideas from and you can help them learn about color, how they interact and can have fun painting with golf balls, straws, cotton balls, etc. Even the special education students enjoy these activities. And don't ever forget silhouttes and fingerpainting! Always favorites!

Wow, what a great start!! Next year when a "regular" spot opens up you'll be right there waiting! There are TONS of books about different kids projects...that should be fun!
