Last week I interviewed at a school to teach summer school for just the month of July. Today I had the demo lesson portion of the process. They loved my demo and I received really positive feedback. At the end of the demo they said they have a few more candidates demoing but they would be deciding by tomorrow afternoon. Well I received an email about 2 hours after informing me they didn't need to wait to tell me tomorrow, I got the job! Wow it was such a great feeling to want to be immediately hired! Now I just got to work on getting hired at a school for the fall!
Congratulations! Even if this school doesn't end up with openings, it is a way to start building connections!
Very true. The summer school isn't ran by the district but rather a foundation. I'm going to pass along my resume to the principal when I go in to train next week. For my demo I had 20 mins. I did a mini lesson on problem solving and telling the difference between addition and subtraction. I modeled, then did a collaborative piece with the students, then had them work independently on 2 problems and shared.
Bunnie - Is this your first teaching position? I got hired for SS too, but this isn't my first time teaching. I am SOO nervous though!
No I've been teaching for 7 years now but I've spent the last 6 months subbing, as I left my job for another which wound up falling through. I'm not that nervous. I felt very at ease talking to the program directors and interacting with some of the students. It just clicked.
