I got the call from the Principal this evening. I missed the call as I did not hear my phone, but she left a message explaining that they had a certified teacher applicant (I have passed my test but I need a semester of student teaching or a year "internship" where I am the teacher on record to become certified) that they felt they needed to hire.

I was worried someone with experience would come in and beat me out as it seemed to be a dream job in a great school.

On the other hand, she said I really impressed them all and she knows I will make a great teacher. She has also offered to meet with me to assist me in anyway possible. I am going to call tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment. I would love to pick her brain to see what I can do to help me get over the curb!!!

*My advice to newbies like me - especially ACP - get any and all experience you can!! I am not sure how yet (especially for those of us still working outside the education industry), but I do know that is my next plan of attack!!!

Many hugs to you. It is wonderful that the P wants to meet with you to give you pointers. That's not something that's offered very often. You must have made quite an impression!

mmswm - Thanks for the kind words. Now I just need to make the impression on the person who has the right position open for me :)

I'm sorry you missed out on the job but it sounds like the Principal is lovely and can be a great asset to helping you in the future :)

:hugs: I'm sorry you didn't get the job. Is subbing an option for you?

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I found myself in the same boat a few times over the summer. "You're great! We love you! But...you're ACP/not bilingual/no experience/all of the above so, we had to go with someone else."

What a nice P to want to help you. Good luck!

    Thanks everyone!
@smalltowngal - unfortunately right now most school districts are closed to new subs( and I am talking large districts). Also, I work full-time and have daycare costs. I am afraid with the oversaturation of subs, even if I could get into a school district I could not garuntee enough days to cover daycare costs.
@aer011 - Good luck to you as well!!! I do wish I was bilingual. It is frustrating to see so many open bilingual jobs!!! I really wish I could speak Spanish!!!

    Teach'ntx,
I hope your meeting with the P will be a foot in the door opportunity. Keep the faith and keep trying.

Maybe that's how she can help you-- is there any way you can volunteer in the school somehow, or sub, or something, that would make the next principal look more favorably on your application?

Simply asking the question will convince her that she's even more sorry to let you go.

That's a wonderful idea. She already likes you, so why don't you try just what Alice is suggesting? This will allow her to see you more closely, and you will likely make great connections there. That way, the next time something opens up there....

It's fantastic that you have a principal who is willing to give assistance. This is HUGE. It says a lot about the impression you made - and it could lead to a recommendation or even a job in the future.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!! I have left the Principal a message, but I don't want to be too pushy.
@Alice and Tami - I wish I could volunteer at her school. I loved the school, however, without rush hour traffic it is almost an hour round trip from my office, so I could not do that on my lunch hour.
On the other hand, there is a school (different school district) that is less than 5 minutes away. I am an approved volunteer with this school district and have left a message for their volunteer coordinator and also contacted the volunteer coordinator for a special program that targets certain schools for special tutoring. Luckily for me this school qualifies. Now I am just waiting to see if the district employee will be at the school during a time I can justify as "lunch" :)
