Well, for better or for worse, I accepted the position. The principal was out, but the secretary asked me if I was coming and was VERY excited when I said yes. I just e-mailed the principal (per the secretary's instruction). It is not my 1st choice, but the one I was offered the job at only 10 minutes after interviewing. 5th grade self contained classroom, in a town with only one stop light. Hello 45 minute commute!! I decided an hour and a half in the car may be a good thing, especially at first, since it is an hour and a half less I am sitting home alone each day! School starts at 8:00, so I won't have much time before school, as it is near impossible to get me up and out of the house prior to 7AM! LOL.

The best thing of it all is that I get to go SHOPPING!!! :) ;) :woot: :2up:

Rowan county near Salisbury. I will be in a one-stop light town! Of course, I student taught in a two-stoplight town, so it shouldn't be that different! ;)
Then again, I graduated in a class of 500+, so I am not quite a small-town girl, which is why I will be commuting!

How thrilling.. to be starting a new career in a new place. You mentioned the commute-- did you decide on an apartment?

Yeah. I keep going back to the apartment I LOVE, even though it is 45 minutes away. I will be happiest there, plus it has an alarm system to keep Dad happier! It is brand new and HUGE (940 sf for a 1 bedroom!). Has a huge fitness center (I keep joking I'll come home skinny. LOL), near the lake, and has crazy things like boat parking!
I am even going to leave all my furniture behind and buy new stuff when I get down there. It will save me about $400 in moving costs, so a little bit will pay for itself!

Congrats! Welcome to NC! What town will you be teaching in and where will you be making your commute from? Sounds like you're not too terribly far away! And yes we do have great furniture! :)

Teaching in Faith, living in Cornelius. Any apartment I liked in Kannapolis, Concord and even Mooresville had no availability until mid-Sept. I couldn't find one I liked in Salisbury. But, the school days are much shorter there than they are here (about an hour), so that makes the idea of an hour and a half in the car every day not as bad!

Congratulations!!!!!! I had a few interviews in Rowan County and even one offer (that's the one I turned down though). Salisbury is a nice town, not too big, but not tiny. I am in Johnston County, so about 2 hours away (I think). I was so many places in a short amount of time. Anyway, great job.

8-2:30 are the school hours. Where student taught, it was 8:50-4:05, nearly an hour longer! Where I sub, elementary is 8:15-3:30, 45 minutes longer. I think we go less days up here, though. It's a new law they can't start before Labor Day, and they finish up around the 12-14 ish of June.

A new law where you're from? I think the majority of schools in NC start around 7:30. In CMS, however, you're either an early start school (7:30) or late start school (9:15/9:30) as far as elementary goes. Very few start at different times (in CMS). Rowan Co.'s not a bad place, you'll like it. I knew many people from college in the College of Education that lived in Faith. You'll enjoy living around the lake, too.

Not a law about time of day, but schools are not allowed to begin before Labor Day. They think it will help the economy with the tourism. Honestly, it is pretty dumb, because the only way tourism will increase is if gas decreases!

I don't know much about it other than a little about Tarboro. We don't really pass through that way really unless maybe on the way to the beach.
