I can't believe I did it, but I did. I started a blog about helping children learn to read.

    http://onlearningtoread.blogspot.com/

Anyone else here blog? How do I add pictures and links to my blog...anyone know?

    Thanks!

Look at you! That's awesome Tracy!

You can add pictures with that little square that looks like a green/blue tv and then upload. The links I just type in and it seems to work-I never figured that part out! :) There is a link button when you do a new post, but I've never been able to get it to come up.

    Thanks!

I'll keep looking for the place to add pictures. I may need to go to youtube and watch a video about how to do it. I'm very visual like that.

I'm impressed. I really like it. Can just anyone read it? Do parents have access to it?

Yes. Anyone can read it and parents can have access to it. If you want to share it with your parents too, feel free. I've also set it so that anyone can leave comments.

Tracy, way to go! I have a blog that is just about decorating and homey stuff. It's so much fun.

To add a picture: When you are working in the box to add your new post, there is a row of symbols right above it. Find the one that looks like a little painting or picture in a box. It is to the right of the Link button. Double click on the picture symbol. It will then give you the option to Upload from your hard drive or the internet.

Just play with it a little and you will be amazed!

    A little more info...

You select the image you want to use and double click. It will pop into the box. Sometimes it takes a minute or two.

Don't mean to be the spelling police, but I'm sure you'd want to fix:

'Rhyming' in most recent post is incorrectly spelled 'Rnyming'....h and n are above and below each other on keypad!

That's one thing I don't like about Blogspot-no spell check feature.

I like your "I spy" game for learning letters. Do you have any other activities for teaching letters? I have four very low second graders that I am working with to learn the basics. I did a picture sort with them using pictures of items that started with S, M, B, and R, but I want to be careful not to make them feel like they're doing "baby" work. I'm realizing I really have NO idea how to teach reading and writing. :help:

If children are having a hard time learning their letters, the more you can make it multi sensory for them, the better. I would take a tray of rice or coffee or something like that and have the children trace the letter in the rice and say the sound the letter makes while they're tracing it in the rice. Have the child do it three or four times. It helps my younger children a lot.

On another note, you should be documenting everything you do with these children so that they can be assessed by the school district, if you're in a public school. If they're not the victims of bad teaching for the last 2 years then more than likely there's something preventing them from learning the letters and the earlier it's discovered, the better off those children will be.

    Thanks for reading my blog!

Your blog is terrific. One thing that you have to be careful of when using Blogger is the "Next Blog" key at the top of your blog. If the children or parents click on it they can get ANYTHING with any kind of content. I would recommend that you Google "remove Blogger banner" and follow the instructions to remove this header and any possibility of inappropriate content.

Thanks. I didn't know about that feature. I certainly don't want anyone clicking on it and getting to something totally inappropriate! Talk about embarrassing........
