I will be teaching third grade until the end of March, longer if the regular teacher decides to extend her leave. I'll be put on Step 1 on the Master's salary schedule after 30 days.

I feel good about my decision. It's a bird in the hand, in a great district that is close to my house, in a grade that I have taught before.

I know it may sound crazy to some, but I am fortunate to be in the position where my DH has a steady, secure income which allows me, quite frankly, to be picky about where I teach. I feel that this job will be a stepping stone to a position there or elsewhere. And the people are so nice! The teacher who I'm subbing for has already offered to help set up the room for me however I want it, because she realizes I won't be getting paid much right away.

I know I'm taking somewhat of a risk because I have no guarantee that they will have vacancies next year, but I the apprehension I felt about the other district was actually greater due to other risk factors. Honestly I could easily have been RIF'd at the other job as they have had serious cuts and had to lay teachers off this past year.

So that is where I'm at, and thank you all for listening and for your advice. I'm relieved to have made a decision, know what I will be doing for the next 7 months, and can enjoy my last week of vacation! Professional development starts in a week or so, not sure how many days I will be going to as the p has to check with central office, but my first pd day will def. be the 24th!

Excellent! And I don't know what you planned, but don't introduce yourself as the LTS to the kids---you ARE the teacher.

Yup!!! I was a LTS last year and I told them from day one I was their teacher and would be for a long time!

This time around I am their teacher for almost the whole year, so I really plan to settle in and make myself at home!

From my point of view this is better than a full year LTS. You will work and get paid most of the year and be able to start interviewing season for next year with a free schedule. Hope everything works out.

Thanks everybody! Honestly, while I'm not counting on it, I have a strong hunch that the regular teacher won't come back in March. Really...who wants to come back and basically sub in their own classroom in the beautiful spring months? I realize she may need to but I kinda think there's a strong chance that she won't!
