A school I sub for has a rule that subs aren't supposed to let any students out of the room for any reason - even for the bathroom. I've been told that this rule is in place because students tend to wander the halls and not just go to the bathroom and straight back. I've been following this rule because it's what I was told to do. When I told a student she couldn't go to the bathroom and would just have to wait until the end of class, she got mad, pulled out her phone, and called her mother. The mother wanted to speak to me. What would you do under these circumstances? Talk to the parent? If you did, what would you say? Would you insist on sticking to the school rule?
