(I know not everyone has the whole week, but I'm curious what you did and how it went)

It was awesome. It was a minimum day, (35 min. classes) without the last period, it was a fun event instead (music, everyone playing basketball, flag football or just hanging out)
The students also received free nachos (and staff received free pizza after school was out).

On days like this most teachers don't give work and students expect it. So I did 2 things. One, I passed out a brainstorming sheet for them to fill out. Next semester I want to focus on overcoming obstacles, and i was curious what would interest them.

Second I told them I had extra credit available during the break. Some were grammar worksheets (easier, worth less points, but had a lot of pages so the points could add up), and more extensive, but still not too hard work, that definitely had to be done at home.

I was pleasantly surprised because a lot of students asked for the extra credit paperwork, but even more pleasant that about 30-40 % of the students started working on them during class, (and finished it) , even though they technically had free time. Some even worked through break and lunch time :)

We worked a bit in the morning and then had our office Thanksgiving feast.

We still have tomorrow and Wednesday. Tomorrow is a regular class day where we're going to practice creating characters in fiction writing. Wednesday, I will probably have a quick fun writing workshop, but then will have a fun time playing some music videos students have requested over the past few months (this is something we do in homeroom every week).

My last day is Wednesday. We have a half day. I'm thinking I might throw in a couple of fun group activities so the kiddies don't drive me crazy. This is our first break for students *and* faculty so I am EXCITED.

We have tomorrow yet. However, today most kids had
"checked out" and we really didn't get a lot accomplished.

Our "last day" for the week will be Wednesday, and I will likely be having them apply their work they've been doing on paragraphing (topic sentences, detail, and explaining those details...mix of summarizing texts they've read and to recount events) to writing a paragraph about what they are thankful for.

In addition, we'll do a brief "deep clean", do a bunch more from our read aloud, and then play our class game. I only will have them for about 2 hours total of "instructional" time (taking out specialist & recess).

We have two days this week. Yesterday was not good. As someone else said, it seemed the kids thought they were already on break. We have a few things to do today that we just didn't get done yesterday, and if we get them done, we have some fun things planned for this afternoon (including making butter and baking biscuits--we've been reading "Little House in the Big Woods" as our read-aloud).

We have two days this week. Yesterday was basically a half day because after the lunch the whole school went to a program at the high school. I tried really hard not to change up the morning too much so the kids wouldn't get too excited. Today is a "normal" day. We will be having a Senior Citizen Lunch on our campus so it might be a little crazy at lunch. (thank goodness I don't have duty) 3:10 can not get here fast enough!!!!

Today was a full day...my kids had PE, we had the local nature guy come for a science lesson, I gave a quiz, a small bit of reading workshop, an assembly at which the first graders sang and recited Thanksgiving poems, followed by science lab....
Tomorrow is half day. I have a problem solving for math for which the kids create a small centerpiece to take home...a read aloud, art, catching up time...

Things have been crazy the past 2 days. Tomorrow is a full day and with snow in the forecast; I hope numbers are low. I will be showing movies all day.

I took today off. First I've taken since school started. Wednesday was to be a half day. First ever in our school history but I just got a call that school is cancelled for tomorrow due to impending snow. Love a one day week!

Yesterday was our last day. We serve the ENTIRE school a Thanksgiving Dinner, with real turkey. The fire department & police department come join us also, complete with their dog. So I spent yesterday in the cafeteria organizing the turkeys, cutting the turkeys that people didn't pre-cut, heating up gravy. Serving food, helping the little ones, cleaning up. We served about 900 people.

Wow, I can't believe so many places have school today! Yesterday was our last day. We had a half day, but no specials, so it almost felt like a full day being with the kids the entire time. My whole class showed up. I was kind of surprised, thinking some might have taken off early to travel. We just did fun Thanksgiving activities, with some writing thrown it too!
