Yay! Just this morning I picked up about 6 days of sub work on various dates between now & Feb! An hour later... Darn it! I could have had 5 more days of work, but I'm already booked for other jobs on those dates! I HATE when that happens!
Worked in a Pre-K SDC class today. I was worried about it, since I don't take special ed, but it was pretty easy. The majority of the kids had autism, anbd were the sweetest kids you can imagine. One was a handful, but the rest just did what they were supposed to do.
This bites! I'm home again, although I'm not surprised since Wednesday is minimum day, and teachers are not taking off this week.
Wednesday is minimum day here too. Last year it seemed like I never worked on Weds. This year, it seems like I get Wednesday calls continually. I think it depends on the way they schedule meetings. Often they'll do it on minimum days so the kids miss less instruction w/o the regular teacher.
I usually work on Wednesdays, but not this time. After being offered a job every day since September 23, I am spoiled. However, at the beginning of the year, I got only three jobs the first 17 days. I hope this is just a blip, and I will be back in action tomorrow, but nothing yet.
I'm getting ready for work...a speech job. This day should be pretty easy! I don't have to be there until 8.
Yay, I'm getting busier! I've mostly only been working 1 day a week, but now I'll sub regularly on MWF & maybe some Tuesdays.
I'm now up to working ALL 5 days a week since Jan 10th! Hopefully, this continues till the end of the year. (If not, I'll just be free on Tuesdays.) How much work is everyone else getting these days?
Congrats, Ms I! I worked 3-4 days per week all of January, which is a lot for me. Usually I'm in the 2-3 day camp. But suddenly this week it's slowed down. I worked a half day Tuesday and have a half day Thursday. I passed on a sixth grade class today. I gave up sugar for the month of February, and couldn't imagine dealing with that age group without my chocolate cruch Unfortunately, I see summer hedging up and I'm spending everything I make...I'm gonna have to figure out how to pick up some extra days to cover my expenses if I can't find summer employment.
Today was an interesting day for me. Half day in the first grade with intermittent electricity. The kids we really great in dealing with it though.
I work 3 or 4 days a week at the HS. Today I subbed for an Algebra teacher. It's not my favorite because I have trouble getting the students to do the worksheets left for them. I gotta get tougher with em!!!
jen12, thanks. Yes, It's getting to be that time of the year where we only have 3, maybe 4 good-sized paychecks left before we're off for the summer. I'll only have 3 REALLY good checks. The other 2 will be so-so.
I just set-up a short-term gig (ends before the school year) that will effectively have me working every day at my main school. I'll be making quite a bit more in that span too. Looking forward to it.
I worked in a kindergarten today where I think the teacher I subbed for and the teacher in the adjoining room are chocoaholics. They have the stuff all over the storage area and I kicked a a bag of it under the teacher's desk today. The teacher next door always offers me some after the kids leave. All of this is fine. I'm the last person to judge. I'm the queen of the chocaholics, but I've committed to a clean eating challenge for 30 days with my gym, so no sugar at all until the end of the month. Some days it sucks more than others.
Oh I'm so glad I have Friday off! So, I worked w/ some kids who've not behaved so well in the past. I work w/ different kids once a week & they were better today, but I hope it continues. Great John Lee. Correction...4 good-sized paychecks!
I subbed for music today--basically just showing films. It was easy-peasy and fun except for the last class--5th grade. That is my downfall. Talking + attitude through the whole class. One kid told me the dreaded "they would never have acted like this if Mrs. V was here . . . ". Ugh. They said she's a screamer. I am not a screamer, but I can't ever control the 5th grade my way, so I am not sure what to do.
Ahh, how nice it is to have this day off! So, I got a job offer from a lady who has work for me as a SLPA that's so far 1, maybe 2 days a week at a private school, but it should be permanent (& I could still sub the other 4 days in the meantime). It would be to start probably w/i the next 1-2 mos. Now this is coming from the lady I posted about before who made house calls to work w/ her clients, but I wouldn't have to make house calls for this! Sounds good & I'll go ahead & do it. In the meantime, the district I sub for may be hiring SLPAs for next school year, so if I have to quit the 1 day a wk job to work FT for the district in Aug, I will.
I was caught off guard today( I mean yesterday). I was surprised to see written on the lesson plan " I will be back at 11:00," and the plan ended there. I double checked with the office to make sure I would be credited with a full day. I was told I would help out another sub afterwards. This was a rather immature and sensitive 4th grade class that sapped my energy, so I was looking forward to moving on at 11:00. By the time lunch arrived at 12:10, the teacher had not returned. I was then told by another 4th grade teacher that she had called in sick , so I was there all day. It sure would have been nice to know the teacher was not actually returning so I could have planned the rest of the day. The teacher said she left updated plans under the older ones that I read. How did I miss them, ans why were the old ones still there?
Rained hard on/off yesterday, but nice today. Pretty easy day w/ middle schoolers too! I think I'll bring home a chicken salad for dinner. So glad to have Mon off!
Kindergarten. No lesson plan, fire drill, and one pants-wetter. But still all things considered, a very good day!
Most of the time kindergarten is my favorite grade to sub. Every once in a while, though, I get a class that exemplifies why so many people won't touch the grade with a ten foot pole. Today was one of those days. There were several boys who I had to keep my foot on all day, and the class never...stopped...talking....The only saving grace was that the rain we were expecting didn't arrive until it was time to go home. I can't imagine having that particular group of students cooped up inside acting the way they did.
Regular day today w/ K-6 speech kids. This week felt VERY long...so glad to have Mon off! I used to like kinder eons again...not really anymore for a long time now! I feel like I have to sterilize my whole body when I exit the classroom since little kids sniffle, sneeze, cough, rub their snotty noses, etc. w/o washing their hands.
