I am having some issues with my subbing on my resume. Where you add job description details, I currently have written "taught all grade levels and subjects on a fill in basis." I don't like it. How else can I reword this? I should mention this is NOT for a teaching position but for a summer receptionist job at a car dealership. I have an interview Friday. So, I want to try and tie in computer, communication, etc... skills to that, but am lost. Want to give your principal a heart attack? Hand them your resume and ask them to proofread it I thought she was going to die Anyway, we both dislike that line. She left for a meeting and stuck it in my box without direction as to how to fix it though.
Hey, Giraffe! I'm a teacher, and also have a part time job as a receptionist at a car dealership! haha I'm sure others will have a better re-wording for you..I'm not the best with that. I just wanted to say "Hi!" b/c I thought it was amusing that someone else will have 2 of the same jobs like me!
I just put the district and the grades I subbed in. I didn't list duties b/c more than likely people know what subs do.
HOPEFULLY we will have the same two jobs When I spoke to the woman, she said she was doing interviews all week. So, I took that to mean she was interviewing many people. This job would be PERFECT for me to work even through the school year- weekday hours are 5-9. I wouldn't feel rushed getting there and I wouldn't get home too late. Plus, it is a half mile from my house (teaching job is 32 miles away). Anyway, I am going full out to get this thing. Fancy updated resume, very dressy, etc... Pretty much going at this as I would a teaching position!!
I subbed K-12 all subjects. I took any job. That's why I have "all grades and subjects." I just don't like that . If I subbed elementary only or something, I don't think it'd sound as funny. "subbed elementary" or something. I am usually a good word schmoozer (hee-hee, not that'd you'd know by that word!) but I can't get ahold of this one....
That's what I did to get my real teacher job! Put down my subbing stuff. It worked...lol. As far as interviewing for car dealership...they'll probably ask you about working a telephone switchboard, and data entry...calling customers...filing...all that FUN stuff. My bf works at my car dealership (where I met him and bought my car!)...so the owner knew me for a year before he wanted someone for nights. I work 6-9. Just tie in multi-tasking, and having patience with people!
Giraffe, this is how I put subbing on my resume: Substitute Teacher School District Town Years . Implemented daily lesson plans for students K-8
"filled a variety of teaching roles with multiple changing responsibilities" Something like that, to show you are a quick study.
Just one thing -- remember that people outside the teaching world don't know what "K-8" means. We know it means Kindergarten through 8th grade, but outside education, they don't know. I'd write it out.
Thanks to all. I settled for "Implemented lesson plans across all grade levels and subjects." And, the job looks promising too!! She really liked me and told me that I was the one she wants She is going to get with the owner and have me come in and interview with him. She barely even looked at my resume or my application. We just chatted
I put something like... "Effectively managed classrooms in all grade levels, successfully implemented daily lesson plans, and facilitated supplemental activities as needed." This shows that you're competant in working with other people, can follow directions, and think on your feet!
How about Provide classroom management, direction and appropriate classroom instruction on an irregular, on-call basis for teachers of all grade levels. Responsibilities include following assigned teacher's lesson plan or providing an appropriate lesson plan when needed.
