On Tuesday I sign a contract with my new district and I need to tell my district on Wednesday that I'm leaving. I haven't been offered a paper contract for 2011-2012 at my current job (even though I have a verbal offer for next year), and my current contract says "for the 2010-2011 school year" so technically I'm not resigning, I'm just not signing a new contract. How do I let them know? Do I put it in writing to the P or the superintendent or both? This is the first time I've had to do this.

I would sit down with your principal and talk with him/her. Usually you write a letter to the superintendent.

In the letter do I say, "I will not be renewing my contract"? since technically I'm not resigning.

Well, you might not need to write a letter since you are just not renewing your contract. That's why I would start with the principal.

If you do write a letter, I would write a nice thank you letter for working in the district as you never know where you'll be in a few years.
