Hi everyone. I am a second-year 5th grade teacher who will be using AR this year. I am trying to think of creative motivational ways to get kids to reach their goals. My question is: how do I set individual goals for each student? What do I have them do/what do I look at to figure their goals? Thanks for the help! :sorry:

I don't think I can log in to ren place at home but if you can (or when you get back to school) in the reports section there is a goal-setting graph. You just select the reading level and the # of minutes you require for reading and it gives you a goal range.

We use AR folders and have the student chart their progress towards their goal in there. They get a new goal/chart every trister.

okay-I just checked. I can get in from home. The report you need is actually under resources.

For example, a student with a Grade Equivelant of 5.0 and a ZPD of 3.4-5.4 who reads 30 minutes a day should have a goal of 1.8 per week, 10.5 per 6 weeks or 16 points in 9 weeks.

I don't know how to help you, but I just wanted to add I LOVE LOVE AR. I used when I was in elem. school and It helped and motivated me to read. The P was always good about if we met our goals we were allowed to do something special. (Like one day he took everyone that met their goal to the movies on a feld trip). This shows you how young I am we went to see Spider Man one lol.

    You are welcome!
I couldn't like the chart I use since you have to be logged into Renaissance Place, but after a little searching, I found a duplicate!
