So tomorrow district wide PD starts and I'm still waiting on HR to contact me (3 weeks). I emailed my P to let her know that I wasn't going to be at the PD at least on Monday. I asked if there was anything I could do to prepare for the year and she only replied that "she would follow up on it" and never replied again. That was Wednesday, I think. I also emailed HR on Thursday to get some idea of where I was in the process. But I never got a reply. I am a little worried, because I found out that last week, the campus instructional Dean posted on a Facebook group that they had an opening for a 6th grade math teacher, which is what I'm supposed to teach. I just need some help as to who I should contact? I mean, surely it's not unreasonable that I want to make sure I have a job and have some idea of what's left to process of application. Someone told me that I should see about attending the PD despite the fact that I am not fully hired. I just need some advice! I've never been through this process before!! Thanks!
I'd be VERY concerned. Call he P or HR Directly tomorrow and share that you saw posting for 'your job' is still open. There's something very wrong here.
Thanks. I will get on the phone with HR tomorrow morning first thing. The dean "advertised" the position on July 22. I emailed my Principal the 28th or 29th. SURELY she would have told me then that things weren't going to work out?? The day after the dean advertised the 6th grade job (23rd), a math teacher/coach job did open for the school on the actual online employment site for the district. But, the dean's ad did not mention anything about the 6th grade math job also being a coaching job. I don't know why they'd change their mind about me without notification. I am 100% sure there is nothing on my background that'd raise flags. My only offense has been 1 speeding ticket 5 years ago. Edit: I want to add that my certification program has emailed a form to the district certification specialist and nothing has been said about not seeing any paper work for "Horned_frog". Or would it be unprofessional for me to 'introduce myself' to the dean on Facebook?
Thanks guys, looks like I'm calling HR tomorrow (car is getting a tune up until the afternoon). If I don't get an answer that way, then I'll drive up there as soon as I get my car back. I'm still clinging to the hope that this process is just taking a long time. To not tell someone that you are no longer recommending them for a job is a low blow and completely unprofessional. I mean, the Principal even told another principal that I had been hired at the school.
Hitch a ride and be there when the HR doors open. At this point, I'd be done with calling and camp in the lobby until I speak to someone.
How many 6th grade math teachers do they have? Is it possible another teacher left? Either way, I would definitely make the trip there and get some answers. Hope it's good news!
Yes...it's definitely possible another teacher left. It's a big school..maybe 4 6th grade math teachers. In fact a new job did ooen. But on the district website, it's only titled as "math teacher/coach" so I don't know what grade it is. The day before that position was posted was the day the dean advertised the 6th grade math position on the Facebook group. But she didn't say it was also a coaching position like the official job is. I'm really hoping that I'm just freaking out over nothing. I'll find out the truth tomorrow no matter what.
I'd be very concerned, especially with district PD starting this week. Hopefully you get some reassurance from HR tomorrow morning.
*huge sign of relief* Well this morning was so hectic dealing with my car. Long story short, I finally got an email from my certification program stating the district had signed my statement of eligibility and I can now be recommended for my probationary certificate!! I called HR earlier today and was transfered to my HR "rep" earlier today and I got her voicemail. Turns out she was out of the office from July 16th - 21st. The 16th was just two days after I received my offer. So I have a feeling by background check was delayed, which delayed the whole process. But yay!!! 6th grade math, here I come!!!
I'd still want some verbal confirmation. Even better would be signing your contract. Follow up tomorrow. Don't wait for the 'rep' to call you and don't rest on your assumption on the cert hold up. You want real confirmation that the job is solidly yours. Good luck. Sending you good thoughts.
Thanks, I will definitely follow up with them. Although, it is good to know my application got to the certification stage. When I called HR a while ago, they told me the 'process' and said that I'd have to pass the BG check before they even looked at the certification. BUT like you said, I'm still double checking!!
