I have a new child (age 3) who will not follow the rules of the center. She refuses to go to the bathroom or do any sort of activity. What is the best course of action to take? She won't even sit down during circle time.

How long has she been there? Some children just need to observe before participating. You might talk with her parents. I bet she can sing every song and do every fingerplay at home.

Have you tried hooking her up with a buddy? Another child, probably a kind girl, to help show her the ropes, give her a place to sit, someone who will encourage her to be part of the group? that doesn't work for all kids, but works for some.

SHe may need some time to get acclimated, esp. if she's never been in a school-type setting before.

I agree. Provide time to settle in and talk with the parents. Most likely she is learning but just observing. The buddy sounds like a great idea as she may not know where to sit.
