I am a mom. I found this article interesting and wanted to engage the teaching community in it. The article addresses the future of the teaching profession, mentioning two opposing groups: Professionalism Advocates and Deregulation advocates.

Can you expand on this? What's your opinion?

It's yet another either-or treatment of the issue. (TeacherGroupie's Law of Intellectual Honesty: Trust a commentary in inverse proportion to the commentator's reluctance to concede that the other side has any valid points.)

It is possible to believe that strong subject matter knowledge is vital to good teaching without being one of Caroline's vilified "deregulators".
