How quiet is your classroom?

    Hi guys!

My question for you is about your working volume in class. I have a lot of trouble having my class work quietly and not having conversations. I am okay with a little talking but it seems that they so easily become distracted. They stop working, go visit friends, start writing notes, argue, make jokes, etc.

I have a pretty solid behavior ladder in my classroom and each year I find that the groups are different. I know I have a pretty immature group next year and I'm trying to decide how hard I want to enforce the work quietly/no talking rule.

Do you have the class work in complete silence, and is that a reasonable expectation to have at the beginning of second grade? Do you have any procedures in place to facilitate this process?

    Thanks!

How about including a voice level chart in your classroom this year? Pinterest and TPT are full of them.

Give them lots of (productive) group work time, and you'll find your working time will be MUCH quieter!

    It varies greatly by year.
