I am 47 and proud of it. Some days I feel like I am 19 again, ready to do anything and then there are some days when I feel older than I am. There are days when I look in the mirror and say "wow, you're looking great!" and other days when I think "Wow, you're looking rugged!" Age it but a number, a number too many people obsess over. I am as young as I feel on any given day. And if I look a day over my age, then the person looking at me has the problem, not me!

I'm 24, with the big 2-5 coming in August.

Hmm...I NEVER ask kids anymore how old I am, because I'm getting more 33's than 22's nowadays.

However, I can still wear my "I'm 21!!!" shirt to bars and get suckers to buy me drinks.

If it STILL works, 4 years later, I can't look that old can I?

Haha IrishDave- it sure does seem like a rowdy bunch.
I am 21- I cannot wait to have 35 years of teaching experience. I hope you enjoy retirement!

Is there a prize for being older than anybody else on the forum? No?

Then I'm 25, but everybody thinks I'm in the fourth grade. I once got carded for buying rum balls, and again for asking for poppy seed dressing on my salad.

I have to buy my clothes at Baby Gap, and I love to window-shop at Spencer Gifts.

Seriously, I was carded and mistaken for students until I was thirty, but it's not happened for a long, long time.

    LONG time.

I just turned 29. People think I'm 20-25, depending on the context in which they see me. I'm pretty OK with that.

I was mistaken for a student often when I first started, despite the nylons and Danskos that no highschooler would be caught dead in. Everyone just thought I was going to an FBLA function, apparently. Go figure.

One ninth grader told me that the way she could tell I wasn't a student was my "teacher walk.":)

I was afraid to post my age but now that I see someone has me beat by 4 months I'll be proud to say I'm 56. Why, at my age, am I on here? Mostly I enjoy reading how so many of you young teachers approach the teaching profession. I'm the first to admit that I am no expert, even though I've been in the teaching profession for 25 plus years, but so many of you take things so very seriously that I feel you'll be burnt out in no time at all. You stress over what you have to do for the following year when the current year is not even over. You have to plan over the summer, make themed rooms. When I started out I was befriended by a teacher who had been in the system for 30 years. She told me to take things as they come and you'll be a relaxed, well respected teacher who gets the job done to the best of your ability. I've always remembered this. I love my job and don't plan to retire for several more years. I plan to continue to do what I've been doing for the past 25 years plus years. I have parents request me to teach their children and that is one of the greatest compliments, I believe, a teacher can receive. Thanks for letting an "oldster" speak what was on her mind.
Congratulations on your retirement Dave! If I hadn't taken a break to raise my two children I'd be where you are going to be this June.

I was 25, standing outside around midnight by my apartment. Cops pulled over and ask for ID. I had none..I was in front of my house! They told me I had to go in because of curfew! Why didn't I just get my wallet and show that guy!

I could have got arrested, and sued and ...oh well, it would not have been fun, just to be right!

Needless to say, I carried my wallet or ID with me ever since!

I am 48..and proud of it. Will be 49 next month!

I have a beautiful 24 year old daughter, and when we are out together, nobody believes she is my daughter... :hugs:

Whenever I get in conversations about kids, I say my daughter is working on her MBA..and I get the weirdest looks!

"You can't be old enough to have a daughter in college!"

Maybe since she is on her own, and doing well, I don't look as old as I should!

I'm 29. I'm a little sick about it also-I'm just not quite ready to be 30 yet, although I have until next February to get used to it. Do you ever forget how old you are? Like when someone asks you and you have to do the math?

When my students ask how old I am, I always say 97 cause that is when I graduated. Then I see how long it takes them to figure it out. Usually not long because I graduated from the school I teach at, so they can go downstairs and look at the senior composites to find me. Someone always figures that out around January or so.

My sister is 42, and people are always asking us if we are twins, especially when she wears her hair curly. She gets a big kick out of that, to which I say fine, but we are going to be twins who are 29!

I have beard. If I shave I look like I'm 16 so in order not to blend into my student population...I gotta do the beard thing.

I am 28 but I feel like I am 6. This is what I love about kindergarten, they have no perception. When they ask how old I am, I tell them to guess. I get anything from 14 to 70!!!!

I definitely don't get carded...don't look that much younger
(46), but on the "inside" I don't feel almost 50! That seems so far away when I think about it. I keep thinking about what they say, 50 is the new 40, and 40 the new 30, etc.!!! When I was a child, a person who was 50 seemed so old!

DaTeach, we are old enough to get in trouble, but we are too tired, and can't find anyone our age to join us anyway! :D

and I learned it is so true...the older guys continue to go after the young girls...I can't imagine seeing somebody not much older than my own kid!

as a teacher and college student, I enjoy having friends and meeting people of all ages...

but I'm looking forward to a high school reunion party in July, and hoping to see some guys my age! ;)

eta..glad to know so many of you have husbands and wives older and younger, and you're loving every minute of it!

Hi! I just joined this week! I am 31, but whenever I am in a high school, people mistake me for one of the kids! Doesn't help that I am only 5'2" either! lol
But I don't *feel* 31, so I always forget my age when someone asks!

I will be 28 this October, but I feel a lot older when we out with my husband's friends and their wives. They're all around 24, still in college, etc. I just don't feel like I can relate to the "younger" ones now. :p

Getting carded is fun! Again i am 21 yrs old and 5'1 (I don't drink often or much a all BTW ). I didn't like it for the fact that 30 plus women do which is to make them feel young.I lik it for the fact that I can say "ya I am old em' to drink in your face" lol I am not a little kid like they may think! I hate people thinkin I am still a kid when I am not. I have earned my right to one drink every now and then.

When I was your age and into my twenties I like being carded for the same reason you stated. But, now that I'm in my 30's, well, I wish someone thought I looked that young again.

Being 5'2" myself, I used to feel tall in pre-k, but there is definitely something they are putting in the fertilizer these days. Many kids are close to 80 lbs and 4' tall at 4 1/2 years old! I refuse to pick them up! It may cost me my job, but I won't get them off a slide or anything else for that matter!

I noticed grad school students, especially teachers, seem much more 'mature' than the undergrads. I don't know why..but so far it seems that way in my grad classes. In my other school, the undergrads would be goofing off, texting, talking..never pulling their weight in group work!

enjoy my cohort a whole lot more!
