How often do you get sick?

This is my first year as a full-time sub. I got really sick about a week before Thanksgiving, then was fine over the holiday and worked Monday and yesterday. Now I'm sick again. I have travel plans this weekend and it's annoying....Am I going to be sick all year?

It seems to defeat the purpose of subbing if I'm sick at the same time the teachers I'm supposed to sub for are sick!

awh sorry you're sick. my first year i was sick very frequently until i built up immunity to all those little bugoes. i imagine it's much worse for a sub with a daily dose of a variety of kids, and if the teacher is out sick, its likely some of the kids are carrying the virus too. it does get better though!

do all that you can- wash hands frequently, vitamins, healthy eating, exercise, etc. but just know that in the end you'll be a healthier person with all those antibodies in you!

I never got sick as a sub. I thought I would get sick alot this year being around students all the time, but this is the first time I've been sick...but it's been 3 days.

I haven't gotten sick yet and I have been pretty diligent about washing my hands, and staying healthy. I know winter is coming, though it's highly important to keep on exercising.

I rarely get sick, but a month ago, after my daughter got sick and stayed home with a high fever, I must have caught it from her, because a day later, I was feeling weak with lots of coughing and a sore throat. That pretty much knocked me out for a week. There must have been a bug going around the schools because my phone was ringing off the hook for sub assignments when I was sick but unfortunately I wasn't in the condition to take any of them.

Me too but then I was takaing a class at night and so those two nights, I wasn't getting enough sleep. I also wonder whether taking the flu vaccine made it worse. I got sich every two months for 3 times starting October 08. This year, I was king of coming down with something last Thursday and I tool 2 Oregano oil pills that night and Friday morning along with vitamin C. By the end of yesterday, I started wondering whether it was flu or mold in the room. The classroom was really dirty; never got proper vacumming. I'll be going there next week. Won't look good to back out.

Man..I feel lucky not to have to miss work due to sickness, I missed 3 weeks in Feb early this year. The last week was ebcause I still didn't have my voice.

I was lucky to get a 3 week assignment, then got a horrible sinus infection on my first day. Luckily, the doctor told me I was not contagious, but I was miserable during the first week.

Sound like you recovered during the first week.

Yes, I was fortunate. I did not want to have to cancel a 3 week position. But, it did wake me up to the fact that I should to prepare for a sub in case I get sick again.

So, I leave a brief note taped to the desk that gives an outline of where I left off and what I plan to accomplish throughout the week. And, I got the school's sub coordinator's cell number so I can let her know if I can't make it to school.

Did you just ask her for her cell number explaining why you want it? Did you ask for the ceell number of the coordinator of all schools?

It never fails, I get sick at some point once a year, but lately, the last couple of yrs, the length of time & severity has been shorter & not as severe! I have no idea why! :)

Well Ms. I, I am getting over a cold and it's funny because I feel better when I am working. Though you would think it would be the opposite.

I am glad you have been pretty healthy this year. I wish continued good health for you in the coming year.:hugs:

I would not normally ask for a sub-coordinator's cell number, but in this case, I looked and felt really sick on my first day of a 3-week job. Even though I'd just gotten meds, I wasn't sure if I'd get better or worse. So I told her that I'd like to have her cell just in case I couldn't make it in the next day (as a sub, I can't use the system to book a sub for myself).

I actually called her that evening to tell her I was feeling better and that I'd be at work. I just didn't want her to have any surprises and I wanted to be as professional as possible.
