I'm just asking out of curiosity.

We've had two fights in two weeks in our hallway, which has in the past been completely violence-free. I have my own opinion about why this change has happened, but I'll keep it to myself for now.

It is very rare a lot of people find odd since every student in my school has severe emotional/behavioral diagnosis.

We probably have about 3-5 all year. These aren't big fights or anything, just kids pushing outside the school on the way to their buses.

The last one I recall was about 20 years ago.

More and more, they are becoming an all too common experience in our school. I remember in past years hearing of a few, but this year and last it seems like a much more frequent occurance. In fact, I helped break up the beginning of one today by committing the cardinal sin of stepping in between the boys (one aggressive one and the other was just trying to walk away, so I felt the need to try to protect him).

Hmmm, I would say two or three a week that I know of on average. Not all are serious, but fights still. We need some sort of security for the common areas.

We have a few (3-5) per semester. Nothing ever too extreme either... most have been girl-fights with more hair pulling and cussing than actual serious injury of any sort.

I don't teach secondary though our building is on the same grounds. I have never in my lifetime, even growing up, seen a physical fight on school grounds. Only in movies. I actually don't know of any by stories of people I personally know either. The closest thing to it was once my child said he was backed up and threatened in the bathroom. That was enough for me.

Hmmm... they happen. I don't think we've had any big ones this year. There were quite a few last year but I came in in January so I am not sure how many there were 1st semester.

We've had one in 5 years, but at my old school (a traditional high school), there was several fights each DAY. :(

At least once a week, maybe more. I am not near the lunch area and that is where they tend to happen.

I'm in a K-4 school....there are hurt feelings sometimes, arguments on the playground, but no real 'fights'.

There have been none so far at my new school. I'm incredibly happy about that! I posted some last year about the tough school I was in. There were fights probably close to once a day, sometimes more than once a day-and that was just in my grade level (5th grade). I am so happy to be in a better environment this year.

I cannot remember any actual fights at my current school in the seven years I have taught there. A few situations have gotten close; but never into a full on fight. The school I used to teach at had almost daily fights.

I've never seen any this year or last, including with the middle schoolers this year.

Pretty lucky at my school, fights happen extremely rarely and if they do they are very minor incidences.

A couple a year at my K-8 school. I know that fights are more frequent at the local high school (including one on the day we took our grade 8s to visit!).

We haven't had any big ones this year. They seem to go in batches. We won't have anything for a month or two and then there will be two in one week. Maybe it has to do with the full moon. There is a possible thesis paper for a grad student.

One school district I was in had (and still has) them several times a week. This was in a suburban neighborhood, but one that is terribly underfunded and overcrowded, to the point that the students went to school in shifts for several years. The worst fights were between those shifts, mostly because the third session kids were treated differently than those who were on first session. It even created a lockdown situation several times when one group would enter the school and the other would leave.

I was only crazy enough to break up one fight, but that was because I was in between the students as it started around / above me. After that, students and teachers were getting badly injured, requiring hospitalization, and I took a full-time position where it is physically impossible to fist fight.

We have none. We have a strong anti-bullying program throughout the grades. There is still bullying going on, but the kids keep it very low key. They know if they are caught there are severe consequences - and there is a lot of peer pressure to treat others fairly and with care.

We were all commenting recently about what a great group of kids we have in our school this year. It is a special year for us, and much needed - we had a tough class last year that affected everybody. This year's group, in general, is very caring, and somewhat innocent still. Refreshing.

    Maybe 1-2 girl fights
    Maybe 3-4 boy fights

We have perhaps one per month on average. However this Christmas we have cancelled the Christmas disco as there has been a fight at it every year for the last 5 years. And this is in an all girls school!

Never. Last year I had a boy punch another in my classroom, but I wouldn't call that a fight.

hWell, there was one today... and one earlier. I would say on average there are 5-6 fights a year and 2 being big fights.

WOW! That's awesome Alice. Please, let me know your schools secret so I can share with with the upper level teachers at my school! :D

Last year, we had a lot of fights in the upper intermediate (5 - 6) grades, mainly between the girls. They formed cliques and would meet up in the bathroom to fight.

There was at least 1 - 3 fights a week EVERY week last year. They were a very destructive group even going so far as to break a window on the upper floor and throw someone's backpack out of it (that started one of the fights).

This year, in lieu of fights, the upper level students have been climbing up on the sink to pee in the soap dispensers, smoking, selling cigarettes and sneaking to the K - 2 grade wing of the school to write graffitti all over the bathroom walls.

EDIT: I went off on a tangent. There are less fights this year between students. Maybe 5 or 6 a month

We don't have many, and they usually go in groups. Sometimes they just need a break from each other. Most of ours are more "show" than intent to injure. We can generally break them up by yelling at them. The girls are harder to break up, and they'll have all their friends drawn into the mess.

A 5-6 school I used to teach at would have about one fight every week. The 6-8 school I teach at now has not had one so far this year.
