Awh, come on....we don't REALLY know each other. I make $31,000 and some change while I am beginning my 8th year.
Maybe you could add an anonymous poll with like $5k increments? I bet more people will answer that way.
More than most who have published their teacher salaries on the forums, but I'm in the NYC metro area...COL is high. And with state legislated higher teacher contributions into pension and healthcare, my take home is slightly less than last year and we are currently in very tough negotiations.
Salaries posted won't mean much unless you know the COL in specific areas. It might seem that I make more than some but I end up pinching pennies because my bills such as mortgage, taxes, etc. are so high.
I make not very much at all compared to cost of living here in Hawaii. I wouldn't be able to afford to live here if I wasn't married. (When I move back home I should make around the same amount or more as I do here, even though cost of living is MUCH lower.)
I was a PS teacher and made about $10 and hour until I became a Director at $15 and hour. When I became CEO of an agency I made about $20 an hour. Now, if I had been a football coach of a college team, I could have made millions. (One of my pet peeves.)
About $50,000 with seven years experience and rank one (beyond master's degree). It's a good salary for this area.
$38,000 with four years and no masters degree. I'll get a $7,000 raise when I complete my master's next year.
$48,000 and change. 10 years experience and a Masters. Fairly low COL, but two in daycare is like paying two mortgages
According to this, my state comes in 5th for average salary, but 15th when you factor in COL. I make pretty close to the listed average starting salary for teachers in NJ. http://www.teacherportal.com/teacher-salaries-by-state/
I'm in my second year. I make in the mid $40ks. It's not enough where I live. I couldn't afford my one bedroom apartment without my husband's income. The ridiculous COL here in SoCal is one reason we are very seriously considering moving to another area of the state soon. I would make roughly the same salary, but we would be doing much better.
Just over $48K spread out over 11 months and full benefits. Our union is pushing for a 5-7% increase. This is my third year of teaching.
Year 21 (19 pay experience) with MA and I make almost $52,000. That's excellent for my area. I live comfortably. Teacher salaries for public school are available to the public. No need to keep it secret. They published our salaries in the newspaper for years. Not like the pay scale, but each person's name and salary.
Even if we did know each other, I wouldn't care...You can search teacher salaries in an online database (at least in my state you can). I think I made around $35,000 last year (my 5th year teaching).
$50 000 with a Masters, 1st year teacher. I lucked out because COL is really low here. My monthly rent (for house) is 1/4 of my pre-tax paycheck. Interestingly, I'm always broke, things keep coming up
Wow. I can't believe some states are so much higher than Hawaii, and I know Hawaii has one of the highest costs of living. My salary is about $43,000 as a 7th year teacher with a Master's degree (but I don't get paid for it since it's in administration).
$55,000, 3rd year, MA degree. Chicago teachers are required to live within city limits where cost of living is high, so it's appropriate. I'm not complaining.
I'm curious where that chart got the info. I'm in year 17 and I made right at 39,000 last year. There's a huge range between the "oil parishes" of the south and the rest of the state. I guess that's what caused those numbers. The COL is fairly low here, but I live in a not great rent house because I can't afford to buy.
About 50,000 for 15 years experience in a Catholic School without a Master's but in a fairly low COL. We live in a 4000 sq ft house that we paid 160,000 for 7 years ago.
$51,000 with a Master's degree. I'm not in the classroom anymore. Last year when I was still teaching I was making $34,000 with a master's and 5 years experience. We live in an area with a low COL.
Just under $34,000 with two technical years of experience (my year at the Catholic school doesn't count). No masters. It's comfortable for my area.
$37k with 8 years. No Master's. I'd say my area is med COL - it's about half urban, half ag, high tourist, right on the ocean.
I make significantly more than listed here as well...I have my Master's and 60 hours past my Master's. I have been teaching for 18 years on the public school salary.
This is a rude question. I will only say that I don't make nearly enough. I don't work full-time, though.
I just started my third year in NYS and will make about $44,000 this year. That's with a master's. I live in pretty low COL area but taxes are pretty high in NY and my student loans are outrageous. I have a part-time retail job.
I'm around 50, I think. They have an old pay scale on the website, and I feel like my checks give me more than that pay scale shows. You can see I'm really up on things like this. I'm in my 10th year of teaching, but only got 4 years credit here. I need three more credits to bump up the scale, so I'll try to find a class or PD this spring. Also, this is a very high COL area. We can't find a house for under 600k that would be move-in ready. We're lucky my husband makes a very nice salary, although he's got a killer commute and we're worried he won't be able to find a job here that matches his city salary. Small town with high COL is a problem when you want to work locally.
I don't think it's rude, for what that's worth...especially in a forum where no one is "expected" to even read it. I enjoy learning this kind of stuff.
My last pay stub has me at $72,348 ytd so i figure I'll be at aprox $88000 by year's end but I am also in Chicago and we are rquired to live in city limits which is extremely costly.
