How many schools are in your district? In my hometown district where I grew up, the students travel from building to building with each other. So they all start at the K-2 building, move to the 3-5 building, then to the middle school and then high school. However, in the district I work in, there are "neighborhood schools" for elementary. So theoretically, some students don't meet until middle school, when they're all combined into one school.

So....how many of each do you have?

    Elementary Schools: 5
    Middle Schools: 1
    High Schools: 1

    Elementary:

17 ( Although one is a Montessori school for PK- 2nd)

    Middle:

    5

    High School:

    3

    Alternative:

    8

And we are a relatively small town.

However, some of our Elementary schools are STEM, Language Immersion, Arts intergrated, etc, so I understand the number of schools.

    Elementary: 24 (1 goes to 8th grade, 2 are K-2)
Middle School: 11 (1 will now encompass 6-12 starting this year)
    High School: 7
Alternative School: 2 (they each are grades 6-12)

We have 1 school that is K-12, rural part of the county.

Mind you, the district I live in is the entire county. There is also a city school system as well that has 12 elementary schools, as it is only a K-6 system.

Where I am from in NY, the districts are much smaller with one or two high schools per district usually, maybe two middle schools and 5-6 elementary schools.

7 middle schools (about 1000-1200 per school)
5 high schools (roughly 3500 per school)

My school district is very small. It is a K-8 School District. After finishing up middle school, the students go to a regional high school. There are 2 they can go to depending on what part of town they live.

    1 K-2 elementary school
    1 3-5 elementary school
    1 6-8 (Middle School)

When I started teaching in 1993, my district was set up as follows:
    • 1 pre-k center
    • 5 elementaries (K-4)
    • 1 intermediate (5-6)
    • 1 middle (7-8)
    • 1 high (9-12)

We opened a new middle school in 1998, so now we have this set up:
    • 1 pre-k/k center
    • 2 elementaries (1-5)
    • 1 middle (6-12)
    • 1 high ( 9-12)

With both set ups, we have between 150-225 kids in each grade.
