I was checking out the thread on the elementary board where people were posting pictures of their classrooms. They all seemed to have what I would consider low numbers of kids.
How many students do you have?

I had 27 to start, but one went back to first grade so now I have 26. Definitly more than ideal, but I've had 29 1st graders twice, so not the worst number either.

We are low this year as enrollment is down. I have 15 right now. Most of the other 2nd grade classes are between 15-17. This is a nice manageable number. Florida has a class size reduction law which drives this.

Our enrollment is down as well, and I have 24. I work in a private school in Alabama.

My district has a new contract that says that k-3 teachers can only have 20 to 1 in their classes. I'm up to 23...the only class in my building with more than 20. I could grieve it but seriously, compared to my 29 last year....I"m thrilled!

At this moment (it may change by the end of the month) there is a Ministry of Education mandated hard-cap of 20 students in all Primary (K-3) classes.

California also has state class-size reduction in place for most K-3 classrooms... some districts have opted out, but lose that extra money... We have max 20 students for class-size reduction.

I have 24. Our state allows 25 in a 1st-3rd grade room, and 20 in a kindergarten room. I'm not sure about above 3rd grade, but I believe it's 30. A couple of years ago we were given a waiver for taking in Katrina refugees. We would have paid a major fine for having over our numbers if we didn't have the waiver.

I have 20 in my class right now. I think one of our teachers is going to be pulled from 2nd and moved to 4th, which would make my number jump to 25. I LOVE IT (not her moving, she's great, I love the numbers)! Two years ago I taught 1st grade and had 32 kiddos.

My room was built to hold 17 students.

I currently have 27. We are so crowded we cannot move.

This includes 6 special ed students (4 are dcd); only five students speak English at home. Three are new to the U.S. directly from refugee camps.

It is crazy. It WILL get better - only have had five school days.

But...what on earth are my administrators thinking?

I have 21 second graders. I teach in Wisconsin. I am thrilled with this number, because this is my first year teaching 2nd (the last 2 years I taught 1st) and last year all of the 2nd grade teachers had 26 students. Yikes!

I had 18 2nd graders last year. My sister started out with 20, went up to 25 when they moved a 2nd grade teacher down, and is now down to 22 b/c they ended up hiring another 2nd grade teacher.

I started out with 20 but have 18 now. Our limit is 22. Twenty desks made the room feel really small so it's nice to only have 18 now.

I currently have 19-25 4th grade students come in my room at a time (I only teach Social Studies). So when I grade, I have 96 papers every time I give a test and everyone wants their grades the next day.

I have 25 students and I love em all but I don't know if I could handle much more. I'm used to CA law and having 20 or less during student teaching. I wish all Utah schools would do that.

I currently have 26 on my list, but during reading and math instruction, I get three more from another class. But they are thinking about hiring a new teacher since they are opening a house a day in the town I'm in. Development is crazy!! The town won't allow portables either.

I have 25 K, but one hasn't shown up yet. So far, I have 3 who get pulled for special ed, and one for counseling (unknown issues for that one...) and a few that should be pulled! Ever had a student who thinks he's a CAR?!

    What grade is that again?

This kid spends the entire day "vroom, vroom"ing and "beep, beep"ing...he has real issues! The only reason he's in our school is because his grandfather works here!

I'm not sure why you don't think this is an issue that shouldn't be grieved. If your district lets you get away with it this year they can say next year here are 25 students. The union did not grieve it so we can just give you over the limit. Be careful that you aren't getting into a situation that could backfire on you.

My nephew's class of sixth graders has 35 kids. The district, facing a budget deficit, closed several schools. The teachers signed a contract the day before school started, but are going on a one day walk out tomorrow or Thursday to protest the high numbers.

I wish we had your problem with too many kids and overflow. I teach a 2nd and 3rd combination with 2 second graders and 3 third graders. We are going to be closing our school at the end of this year. :(
