I am so excited about this school year. I have 15 students on my roster right now, however, I think one of the students has moved since the end of last year which leaves me with only 14 students. I know that I will be able to accomplish so much more with these numbers.

So what about you, how many students do you have?

I have fifteen also. Last year I had 23 so I'm super excited about the small number.

I've been told I will be starting on overload at about 28 in my third grade classroom. Yikes!

Andrea, yikes is right. It seems that they would open another class with such large numbers. I had 20 last year and that was a challenge.

I have 31--the biggest class I've ever had. I don't even have enough chairs in my room. I have no idea what I'm going to do on the first day of school!

I have seven 3K/4K kids which is a much needed break from the 25 K/1's I had last year!

They had four 2nd grade classrooms last year with 22 in each. That would be ideal compared to what we are looking at, but they are only going to have three 3rd grade teachers this year and puts my calculations at 29.3. I surely hope that either many students moved over the summer, or they hire another teacher. Although, I won't get my hopes up, I started the year at 29 last year and instead of hiring another teacher, they moved mine to another class, which moved fifth grade to 30 each. Yeah...we do what's best for children! (Which don't get me started on that :))

I have 19 students on my list. This is much better than the 25 I had last year. I have 10 girls and 9 boys, which is such a wonderful ratio. I do hate that 19 isn't divisible by anything, though! :)

At the moment, I'm supposed to have one class of 10 and the rest at 19 or 20 each.

Last I heard, I had about 14, but it will probably change before school starts on the 29th. Only 5 of them are girls though, and one of those 5 is a total tomboy.

Last year each of my classes had 27. That's too many. Hard to walk. Hard to keep up. I think 22 is a perfect number. Fingers are crossed for that. :)

Wow, a lot of you have small classes. Here, it's not uncommon to have 35 students in one class - I would say it's the norm more often than not. In my last practicum I had 33 and I've done some long-term subbing in which I had classes in the 30's also. I thought there was supposed to be a cap on class sizes until a teacher explained to me that it isn't the actual size of the class that's capped, it's the AVERAGE class size - so as long as the average stays low, you could end up with quite a huge class. Funny how they play with numbers like that.

Right now I will have about 14 in my class. However, we have what they call a trim after the first 3 weeks of school where they trim teachers from schools with lower numbers and move them to schools with higher numbers than expected. I have a feeling that it will happen in our 4th grade and we'll end up with 20 or more per class.

Currently I have 18 total, 9 boys and 9 girls. I started out with the same last year and had grown to 22 by the end of the year, so we will see this year.

Oh, for those low numbers! How incredibly fortunate for those of you that will actually be able to teach instead of doing crowd control!

My class size was predicted to be about 32, but as it turned out there were a lot of students who moved away, so I have 25 students right now-but that always changes during the first week of school. Our 6th grades (2 classrooms) each are starting with 32. So much for class size reduction in Utah! :(

I have 21 third graders...12 boys and 9 girls. The weird thing with my class is that I have 3 sets of repeating names (2 kids named Ben, 2 named Alex, and 2 named Sara!) That might get a little confusing. ;)

As of the end of June I had 25 in my Grade 5 (a nice change from 29 in a split 5/6 last year!). I am expecting that number to be higher by the end of August, and even higher by the end of the first week of school. I am just hoping I can stay below 30!

RIght now I have 23 on my class list and that was at the end of July before the secretary came back. On her first day back she had 7 new ones register! With August registrations-I am hoping to stay under 30 and that they hire another Kindergarten teacher to help out! :)

Right now, I've got 17 fourth graders - 10 girls and 7 boys. I am super excited for such a small class! (When I was student teaching, one class had 24 and the other had 31) This will be great. I may get another if anyone else registers in the next couple of weeks before school starts (parochial school), but I am unlikely to go up more than that. I sort of hope that I do get one more, so I have an even number. Either way, it's going to be great!

Just got my list. I have 23. Everyone else has 25. I have less because I'm outside in a modular. I will get the next two students that enroll, and then they'll add them to the other classes. We have 12 2nd grade classes, and 13 3rd grade classes. I don't think we'll add another class because we don't have room. We're still waiting on our new school. It should be finished (I say should be-probably not), by August 12, 2006.

I have 3 classes that have 35 in each. I am an inclusion teacher for ESE 10th grade biology. The other 2 classes are total ESE and they have 15 in them. Those classes are career preparation.

I have two classes of 20 each, with a full time assistant. We're capped at that point, and because PreK isn't mandatory, we stop enrolling students once we're full.

20 right now - 12 boys and 8 girls. I expect we'll add a few before school starts in 2 weeks, but my colleague will get the first one or two new students, because I have all 6 special needs students in my room.

Andrea L-sounds like you teach in my district!
I am starting at 27 in 2nd. So is the other straight 2nd, the 1/2 split is at 10/10. The straight firsts are at 25 and 26. Our new principal figured it out, we can move a few teachers around, have NO splits (currently have 3), hire a new 2nd grade teacher, put all 1 and 2 at low numbers and 3rds will be capped off at 32 and 32 (which they are willing to do so no one will have a split), and 4 and 5 will be relatively low, but how much do you want to bet that my principal's boss will say no when she asks tomorrow?!

I am so jealous of all of you with small classes, makes me want to do a poll and find out what everyone's cap offs are-but I don't know how!!! Seems to me that MI's are really high.

I have 21 as of right now...I started off with 23 third graders, but two moved over the summer. I think the 3 other classes have smaller numbers, so if any new kids come in, they probably won't come to me right away. But I guess we'll see what happens right after Labor Day when the kids start.

    Class sizes

I teach 7th grade math and 8th grade science. Kids start tomorrow and as of this afternoon I had three classes of 35, one of 38(!), 20, and 23.
We have 7 class periods a day.
guidance counselor assures me that many kids won't show up - I am hoping he is right because I can only fit 35 desks in my classroom!

We haven't gotten *ANY* information yet, but supposedly it is on its way in the mail. This is very early for our schedules to be done. We did not get anything last year until the first day of school.

Last year I had 45 total...with my biggest class at 18. I teach 3 out of the 4 sections of Grade 5 LAL so we shall see!

I have 22 on my 2nd grade roster currently but as we all know changes occur frequently. This is still a pretty good number, but it seems like a lot after my last two years of only 17 and 15.
