I have 13 kids with a para in the afternoons. I lost my morning para. Hopefully won't loose the guy in the afternoon. I think it is really neat for the kids to have a male role model in the class. ( I was supposed to have a sped student but lost him over the summer. We are currently waiting for a meeting on another student which may determine whether I get aides or not.)
I have 20 students with a para that comes in for two hours in the morning and two and a half hours in the afternoon.
I received my updated class list on the first day of school, and there was a new student added, putting me at 19. However, 2 students have not shown up at all this week... it sounds terrible to say, but I really hope I stay at 17 students!
We had a grade one student transfer from another school in the district... as the Resource teacher was going through her file, she discovered that this girl was to be repeating kindergarten... Mom told us that she was in grade one!
I keep losing and gaining students. I feel like we are playing musical desks! #28 started today. I had 27 for a full week. To be honest, I'm grumpy when I think about it outside of school, but when I'm in the classroom teaching I have so much fun.
My first year teaching in an inner city public school I had 33 in my 3rd grade class then we had an at-risk grant allowing for a 17-1 ratio from k-3 for 8 years. That's gone now - but so am I. I'm in a private school now with a cap of 14. I team with another teacher and we have a combined 23. It's great, my daughter is in my class. If she were in my local public she could have anywhere from 23-33 in her first grade class. With cuts and high numbers we actually are getting some more students coming to our school after the school year has begun because of such high numbers in the public schools.
First grade, 29 students, no aide. And I'm in a fairly mobile area... I usually get one or two in the fall. :-/
When my kids were in 1st grade, they had 13-14 kids in each class. We are a pretty small school and each grade only has two teachers so they have less than 30 in the entire grade.
