I'll admit to being guilty.
I'm only at my computer during class if I'm taking attendance or conferencing with a student about his grades or reading level, so no.
Fortunately I'm off all week for "fall break," so I can spend some time during the day on the forums when I should be getting ahead on second quarter materials!
I wasn't guilty of this when I was in the classroom, but now that I'm at a desk most of the day, I pop in more frequently to take 'brain breaks'.
I do during my conference and lunch. In fact I feel amiss when I dont read at lunch. It's professional development!!!!
Not during class because I have to use my projector all period and it is hooked up to my computer. But, I will get on during lunch or after school.
The kids are taking the ReadiStep today (9th grade version of the PSATs) so all I'm doing is standing around and proctoring.
I do. I'm very fortunate to teach an elective that, as part of planned lessons, involves necessarily showing a large number of movies. Therefore, I spend a fair amount of time at my computer on some days, and on others, none.
I reward myself with a look at the forum as a brain break during my grading sprees. I'm rather isolated at home and use this as a major professional interaction.
Barely have time to breathe during class, let alone remember to take attendance, let alone check these forums. I don't think I've ever really checked them during class, but I will during my prep, and after school or right before.
I'm guilty of doing it as well.
Nope. I'm pretty sure it's blocked anyways.
I sometimes check in during my 3rd period Study Hall, once the kids are settled down. It depends on whether or not I have grading to do. The study hall isn't in a classroom I teach in, so I have no math book there to use.
When I'm in class, I'm busy teaching.
No way...for privacy reasons.
I tried during prep once, but the site was blocked.
During class? With 28 third graders? Not a chance. During my prep time, or before/after school? Sure.
I only come on here when I'm at home...don't think I ever logged on at school!
Not I. When I'm being paid to teach, I teach. I do love checking in once I get home.
No way. District tracks our websites at work. I don't even check the news at lunch.
I wish I had time!!!
Nope! No time during class! Those grade 1s keep me hopping. But it's the first place I check when I wake up and the first place I go when I get home from school.
I don't. We are monnitored. And I've got enough to fill my down time. And I personally feel surfing the Internet is not a professional use of time...even on these forums.
No I don't. The only time I may go on is if I remain at school due to night conferences or open house.
So you never surf the web or check your personal email while at work? Ever?
I wouldn't admit it if I did, and no I don't.
Remember, most school systems have filters of some type so that they can see what you are doing on your computer. I wouldn't want to have to explain any of my rants. uh-oh!
I don't. If I had a need to do so, I could on my phone at lunch but 25 minutes isn't long enough.
I used to during my plan time, but on my phone. I'm paranoid of big brother. I logged in once on my computer, and after that I swore that someone had tried to log in as me. So I never did it again, on my computer.
I don't do anything personal on my work computer. I'm too busy, for one. I also don't want to compromise my privacy. If I am expecting a really important e-mail to my personal e-mail, I check it on my phone. But that stays put away most of the day, too.
I made it my goal one day to take a drink from my water bottle just ONE time without being interrupted. It didn't happen. Every time I picked it up, I heard at least one "Mrs. ____!" So, no, there is no way I could check this site with kids in the room!
I do, however, take a peek during prep time, and before and after school. It's a nice little break.
I do these things, but I worry that shouldn't. We aren't really "monitored," but we did have to sign an internet usage policy that states that everything we use our computers for should be teaching-related. I figure these forums are teaching related, though!
At my last job at the district, I didn't take the chance because they track every site you go to. At my job now, I can check anytime since I work at a differnt kind of school that's more laid back & bring my own iPad to work.
Personally, I don't think going online and interacting with social networks is a fair use of my contracted time...monitored or not.
How does anyone have time during class??? I understand, in between classes or during breaks ...
I like this forum, but I don't go on this site during class. I am too busy with the students.
nope. I'm too busy. I am almost always interacting with students during class time. If I'm not "on" I am either listening in on conversations, setting up for the next activity, etc.
I do check the forums from time to time during my planning. But on my phone. I don't check personal email or other message boards that aren't teacher-related.
Thankfully, my administration sees this as a professional site and they have even suggested I share it with my co-workers. Only one person in my department is on AtoZ, AFAIK, and that's because she heard of her job through my postings here.
As an online teacher, I'm sure your experience is much different than those in traditional settings.
Nope, never. I have limited time with my students so I'm busy teaching. My class isn't one where I show movies or do activities where I'm not needed, so I need to be present at all times. I occasionally check my school email if I need something for the class, but never my personal email.
When students are taking tests and quizzes, I'm busy monitoring and answering questions.
