How Many in Your Class this Year?

I had 32 last year. I am supposed to have more this year but won't know for sure until just before school starts.

Yep, it's normal.

 

I work at a private school in Los Angeles, and I teach Fourth Grade. This year I will have 21 students in my class, but I also have a Teaching Assistant-this person can range from a Co-teacher to someone that helps with prep and helps during a lesson, but does not lead a lesson.

I am lucky to have had my last two teaching jobs be at affluent private schools, so for me it's normal. But like I said-I'm a lucky one!:wub:

 

Just saw my rosters today. Overall, 112 students over four periods -- largest group so far is 31. Ten years ago, 13-16 students was the norm, but our area (NE GA) has experienced explosive growth since the turn of the century. I teach 6th grade.

 

Each class has 25 (as of now - it will go up before school starts)

Last year my largest class was 21. It is a little higher than normal. Plus this group of kids is a handful so to have them in larger classes.... I need to prepare! :lol:

 

So far, my roster has 22 kiddos. However, new enrollment is Monday. We aren't sure how many we will gain through those displaced by the Joplin tornadoes. Of course, we may lose some once the other school offices open as well.

Also have a power-up (RTI) class; could be up to 30.

Numbers are higher than when I started there. Will probably go up over the course of the year. Don't know where I'll put kids - only have 26 official desks.

22 in grade 2...last year was 16 and dropped to 15...the year before was 16...the year before that was 20...before that I taught 5th grade with 22.

Our class cap in grades 1-5 is 24. We can have more than that, but get paid a little extra per extra student.

This year the largest classes in our school were first grade classes at 23 each. Smallest classes were second grade and third grade with 15 by the end of the year.

Right now I have 25 I could get up to 30.

 

26. But this is a huge improvement over last year. I was sitting pretty on 34 last year.

 

I have 31. And apparently a few more are supposed to register next week.

 

22 fantastic, enthusiastic, and fortunate pupils. Or so I hope. LOL.

I am located in central Florida at a somewhat rural school north of Tampa, and 22 is the highest number of students I can have. Here are my numbers over the years:

2004-2005: 18
2005-2006: 15
2006-2007: 21
2007-2008: 21
2008-2009: 20
2009-2010: 21
2010-2011: 22
2011-2012: 22 (I always begin with 22. The advanced class fills up fast.)

Numbers shifted a little back and forth, but that is pretty much the number I have had every year. Now 2008-2009 started the advanced program, and I switched classes with other classes prior to that, teaching high reading every year but 2005-2006, when we switched only for math and I taught the high math. The highest number I encountered in my room was 26 in high reading in 2007-2008, but that was before Florida's class size amendment was enforced.

I have taught fourth grade all eight years.

 

I have 19 students so far. I teach 1st grade in NJ. Each year I end up with 20 students by the time the year begins. This is normal for the 1st grade in my school (we have 5 sections), but I'm not sure about other districts or even other buildings within my district.

I think that's fairly common with parents of kinders! We've been full since May (I'm at a charter school & it's an 11 month year). There's a wait list for every grade.

 

I'm currently at 202, but the numbers will swing wildly through the semester (we're getting another teacher on our team and students will pass in and out through the weeks).

I have no idea how many students I will have per class. I hope, hope, hope that I do not have more than 34 since my classroom set-up is perfect for me and I can only hold that many at a time.

Also, I will have three classes of all on-level students. They will take much more time and effort than three classes of honors students. And there will be more contact with parents needed so the fewer I have the better!

 

I'm looking at 2 classes of 38 freshmen, one class of 38 sophomores, and my juniors and seniors will be far less (10 & 11, I think). I teach grades 9-12.
Is this normal? the upper grades are small, but normally my school tries to keep us under 30 per classroom. Last year, my 2 freshmen classes started the year with 30. 38 to me is too many! Not even sure how I'll squeeze them all in!

I'm at a small parochial school. Our average is 15-20; this is just a small group.

 

In June I was told I would teach Kindergarten, now I got moved 1st Grade.

I have 18 First Graders so far, but that will change once the Bilingual Students are tested for Regular Ed.

Last year I had 16 in 5th grade! They were mostly the ones who needed extra help but weren't special ed (except one who tested in at the end of the year.) Two were gifted, two more were very bright, and that left 12 with varying degrees and types of difficulty.

And yet....we had a very successful year.
