    A. What subject to you teach?
    4th

    B. What grade do you teach?
    4th :)

    C. On level, honors, AP, IB, or special Ed?
    N/A

    D. Public or Private school?
    Public

    E. How many hours do you work after school each day?
Usually 3-5...I'm not as efficient as others, though.

    F. How many hours of sleep do you get every night?
Goal is 8, but I tend to get about 7/night

    G. Please be 100% honest. Do you love your job?
Every moment. Even the ones that drive you absolutely nuts :).

    A. What subject to you teach?
    All 3rd grade
    B. What grade do you teach?
    3rd Grade
    C. On level, honors, AP, IB, or special Ed?
Full inclusion, from students significantly below grade levels to students who don't know their letters yet.
    D. Public or Private school?
    Public
    E. How many hours do you work before and after school each day?
Honestly, this depends. Some days it's 5. Some days I show up with the kids and leave with them too. I would say on average 1-2 hours.
    F. How many hours of sleep do you get every night?
I'm a night owl, so less than I should. I usually get between 5-6 just because of my night owl behavior, but I do this to myself. If I wasn't a night owl, I could probably get 8-9.
    G. Please be 100% honest. Do you love your job?
Yes. There are times when I want to scream and pull my hair out, but I cannot see myself doing anything else. I had this conversation about a year ago. One of the greenies on my team said she wanted to quit. A 25 year veteran said, "Yeah, but what would you do? Once you've done this job, what else is there? There's nothing quite like it in the world." To this the greeny replied, "I suppose my worse day here is still better than my best day at a call center."

I'm just going to say it like this: some nights I get 4 hours, some nights I get 8-9, but it has nothing to do with my job. I've not lost any sleep because of my job in the past 5 years. (it was only during student teaching)

    E. How many hours do you work before and after school each day?
None before. Some days, about an hour. If I'm rehearsing, four. Most of my work gets done during the day, except during report card time.
    F. How many hours of sleep do you get every night?
Only about 4 or 5, but I'm one of those people that does just fine on the little sleep. I spend a lot of time at night writing and reading, and I just don't get sleepy. I usually have one or two nights during the week when I sleep for 8 hours. I also nap a lot during the summer
    G. Please be 100% honest. Do you love your job
Most days. I have days when I've wanted to pick up my keys and quit, but those days don't happen very often.

Not a single person has said that. If you read it carefully, a couple have said that for some, but not all nights (one as a lowest end of a range, one as perhaps a more often, but only 3-4 days, and again, at a low end of a range).

Again - read through carefully: that answer was regarding working after school. Not sleeping.

No, I don't love it. I love the idea of it but in the moment I don't always love it, especially when it comes to students who are unmotivated or rude. But in fairness, there is no job I'd love because everything has negatives. But I like it a lot.

    A. What subject to you teach?

I teach a number of subjects.

    B. What grade do you teach?

    I teach young children.

    C. On level, honors, AP, IB, or special Ed?

Many students have special needs. Many.

    D. Public or Private school?

    Public.

    E. How many hours do you work before and after school each day?

Between one and ten, depending upon my mood and sense of urgency.

    F. How many hours of sleep do you get every night?

I'm lucky if I get six hours of sleep, and my luck leaves much to be desired.

    G. Please be 100% honest. Do you love your job?

I love parts of my job. I tolerate some parts. I abhor much of it, thanks to corrupt Indiana legislators and the miserable quality of the school district I serve. I fear for the future of all teachers in the face of mounting national opposition to equal, quality public education.

I understand you are young and considering a career in teaching. I will advise that you study up on teacher pay schedules in your area, as well as the health of your teachers' union. It is important that teachers receive a salary commensurate with years of service and education; this is what allows teachers to maintain a standard of living for the duration of an actual career. It is also important that unions have the ability to bargain for working conditions.

And do substitute teaching before going into debt pursuing a teaching license.

    Goo luck!

    A. Mild/Moderate SPED resource

    B. K-3

    C. SPED

    D. Public

    E. None before, other than the 30 minutes we are required to be there per our contract before students get there. We also have 30 minutes of contract time after students leave. I rarely work more than 30-60 minute past contract time. I'm getting a new principal who seems like she might be a lot more of a miromanager than what I'm used to, so I'm afraid that might change.

    F. On a school night I am lucky if I get 2-4 hours. This has nothing to do with the job. I am an extreme night owl and have had difficulties falling asleep my entire life, even as a child. If I am allowed to sleep in the morning, I can sleep 8 hours no problem. Obviously that doesn't work when I have to be at work at 7:30. My preferred sleeping time is around 2-3 AM to 10-11 AM. Getting to sleep whenever I want is one of the best parts of summer!

    G. I would say that I like my job.

Do you nap at all in the afternoons/evenings? I'm like you that, given a choice, I prefer to stay up late and sleep later, but I have finally trained myself to get to sleep by midnight for the most part. On those days I don't, though, I usually feel like need a power nap when I get home from school to keep me going through the evening.

I try not to nap because then I typically will literally not be able to fall asleep at all that night (as in, I literally get 0 hours of sleep). There are times when I'm so exhausted that I simply can't keep myself awake and end up falling asleep on the couch. Those times are pretty rare- I've really just learned to function on very little sleep. Although I enjoy being able to sleep on weekends and during breaks, I can truthfully say that for the most part I don't notice a big change in my energy levels on days where I'm running on a few hours vs. days I get a full 8 hours.

    G. Please be 100% honest. Do you love your job?
I do love teaching. Honestly, I do not know what else I would do. I would love to teach college one day, but that's still teaching! I'm kind of going through a phase right now where I have thought about doing something else. Not because I dislike teaching, but because I'm in a rut mentally with teaching at the moment and just want a lifestyle change. However, I'm worried I will get out and seriously regret leaving. This is my 6th year teaching. I love it, but I'm wondering if I can do it until I retire.
