I went onto my new school's website and it said "37 days until the first day of school." This freaked me out. I don't feel ready at all! Hopefully once I meet with my principal, new team and get into my classroom, I won't have as much anxiety. In 37 days I will have 24 kindergartners and their parents in my room and I will be THE teacher :wow:
So my principal says we have to be back for campus PD on August 13 but our first contracted day is August 18, and school starts August 25.
I haven't seen the calendar yet, but almost all of Michigan will start on September 2nd. I will likely have to start sometime during the week of August 25th.
Too many! I will start working in my room Aug. 13 when I'm done nannying. Teachers officially go back the 18th. Students come the 20th.
Teachers report August 25, kids report September 2, I'll probably start setting up my room on August 20.
School finished for me on Friday, so I'm certainly not counting how many days I have left of my summer--it's barely started! Students start back on September 2nd. I'll be in a few days the week before that to get things set up, but we have no mandatory days before the kids start.
I don't want to count! Our official first contract day is August 12, but the building will open July 28, and it's pretty much expected to come in some between then and the start of our contract. The kiddos will start Aug. 18.
I've been off for 11 days...I'm not wasting one minute of summer thinking about how soon I have to go back.
I know how you feel; I used the sad face for a reason ... Before we know it, we'll be back to the grind
I start August 4th, but I'm not going to count the days. I cry every time I think about leaving my new baby!
Don't make me count! My last day was Friday! Lol I have to go back August 1. Kids start august 11. Meet the teacher is aug 7, so the room needs to be ready by then. I'm switching schools and grades and have a LOT to do this summer to prepare, in addition to moving 400 miles away...so even though I am excited, I cannot think about school starting yet! Too much stuff needs to happen first!!
I am a new teacher and I am also excited to get started. I have a couple of countdowns going on. 14 days until I turn in my notice at work, 28 days until my last day at current job, 32 days until the kids first day (short day on 8/4) and then the first full day is on 8/11 which is 39 days. My teaching position will start on 8/1 so basically 29 days until I start.
Ugh! I'm switching schools this year, so new teacher orientation starts July 23rd...so twenty days! School starts August 5th. We got out in early May, though.
I don't even want to know, considering our last day was exactly a week ago. I do know my trip to Disney is 38 days away, that's my only current countdown!
We start July 25th Meet the teacher is July 30th. Students start August 1st Our students finished May 29th Teachers finished June 2nd. Have a conference July 14th and July 23rd. Gonna try and squeeze another vacation in between the two. Already took one for five days.
I still have a couple of pals who still work at my old district & one told me Aug 1st already. That's the earliest I've ever seen it in all the last 16 years I've either worked or heard.
Your school year ended on June 27 and you HAVE to go back on August 1? Your kids only get 6 weeks and you only get 4 weeks of summer break?
I'm moving to another area of the state and switching schools. My new school got out 2 weeks before we did. August 1 and 4 is new hire orientation - everyone else comes back August 5. My old school was in a bit of a mess this year because we opened a new campus and construction was delayed two weeks, delaying the start and end of the school year by two weeks. My new school has 6 weeks of summer break for teachers (7 for kids), which I think is reasonable. They have longer and more frequent breaks during the year - a week in Oct and another for Thanksgiving, 2 for Christmas, and 2 for spring break. I don't have much of a summer this year, but oh well. Next year will be better. I've already started having stress dreams about next year...sigh.
^^^ Good luck this upcoming year! Hopefully, the move and transition will be worth the stress b/c your new school will be a better experience.
Teachers report back on Aug 6 for PD, and students start on Aug 12. With my new instructional coach position, I start back on July 30th. Oh and I have a training day in about a week, but it's just a "Training of the Trainers" thing so we know how to be in the front of a room LOL.
We don't finish school until the 18th July and we return on 1st September. What I really hate is immediately the schools break up the stores put out their 'back to school' displays of uniforms and stationary etc! It really depresses me when I shop.
What are your school breaks like during the school year? How many teaching days are in a school year?
We have 200 days in school. The kids do 195 days and we have 5 days for CPD (training) Nominally we have 2 weeks at Christmas, 2 weeks for Easter, 6 weeks in the summer and then 3 weeks in the middle of the three terms (Semesters in your speak) which adds up to 13 weeks holidays but they shave a day off here and there to give us 12 weeks away from school in reality.
