This year teachers & staff start on Monday, and the kids come on Tuesday. We used to always start the kids on a Thursday, and the elementary teachers seem to prefer that. I kind of do, too. I can get my introductory stuff out of the way and start in on the curriculum full force on a new week.

Teachers start on Tuesday and the kids start on Friday. I do not like it when we start on a Friday!

This is the first year we start on a Wednesday instead of Monday. I am super happy about it! :thumb: Getting into the swing of things those first couple weeks are tough for students & staff. :)

We have two days of Teacher In-Service (Tues & Wed) of Labor Day Weekend. We have the children Thurs and Fri. Nice short week of children.

Some years, we have started on a Monday and it is very draining... So happy to have the children start on Thurs...

We start next Monday. If I would have stayed at my old school, we would have started on a Wednesday this year, but we usually started on a Monday.

Teachers return on Monday, August 13th.
The first day of school is Monday, August 20th.

I've been told that my district has always started on a Monday.

That would be kind of nice...having a full week before the kids return. Or does that week contain many meetings?

Nice to know that our district isn't the only one in California that starts so early! :)

    3.5 days of meetings
    1.5 days of classroom set-up

I normally head to my classroom during the first week of August because I can't get my classroom ready in 1.5 days!

I may be new here, and live in a state where you have about as much chance of winning the lottery as you do finding a teaching job. Now I had summers off for 7 years and understand the dread of going back to early mornings and late days. That's the nice thing I have now teaching year-round and having two weeks off after every quarter - I don't have to feel that dread anymore. But I'm hoping I'm wrong in feeling as I read many of these posts that there isn't a whole lot of gratitude of having teaching jobs. Take it from a three-time RIFed teacher - you're VERY lucky!

I don't think anyone feels ungrateful for their job. I certainly don't. I think I got shafted in terms of teaching assignments this year and I spent a couple of day really ****** off and then a couple of weeks getting stuff ready for two new classes I'm teaching next year.

As to the start day, I personally prefer to start on a Wednesday or Thursday because I'm exhausted after the first few days, the little kids are dragging and even the high schoolers have difficulty.
