Currently I have five literary centers. They are -

    1. Computer
    2. Word Work & Writing
    3. Listening
    4. Library
    5. Art (which is an uphill battle b/c centers only go for 20 minutes and are independent. Paint is too messy)

How about you guys? How many centers do you have? Do you change them often? What types are they?

This is similar to mine. I have word word and phonics as a station and writing as its own station. Listening and library are also together.

I put out 2 new things at the art and writing station each week that match the theme and/or current sight words or spelling patterns. Phonics has about 4-5 choices within it and I change one of those each week depending on which was the least liked/used the week before. They have 30 min per day and stay at the same station that whole time. If they decide to leave, they can sit at their table and read silently or copy the word wall on their white boards.

    3. Word Work
    4. Writing

They aren't centers as much as they are rotations or literacy stations. The only materials are (very few) worksheets or graphic organizers, magazines, and books for student reading.

I do not use daily 5...
I have 10. They go through a complete rotation every 2 weeks, going to one station per day. The activities are endless at each station....
    Buddy Reading
    Poetry
    Word Work
    Computer
    Writing
    Word Wall
    Read/Write Around the Room
    Library
Handwriting (this is not in our curriculum so I have to fit it in somewhere!)
    Listening
My stations aren't set in stone.

Thanks for sharing everyone! Lynn, I'm in awe that you have 10 centers. Do the children take some of them to their seat or do you have 10 separate areas?
