We get a total of 7 paid days to set up our space, including 2 days of meetings. I usually need every bit of it since our space is completely taken down at the end of the year. How much time do you get and how much time does it take you ?
I just looked at the Calender. I will have 6 workdays before School starts on August 4. I will have a lot to do in between time ... and I will probably go in a couple days early to start setting up the classroom, meet with other teachers as well as go to New Teacher Orientation
Wow, we will have 4 days and at least 1.5 of them will be meetings. I always start a week or more ahead of time, going in for a couple of hours each day. Actually, those are my FAVORITE days...on my time, stay only as long as I feel like staying, getting things done before a zillion other people need me.
We have 3 days of preplanning. We will have a meeting on the first day, then get to work in our rooms. The next day, we have a luncheon together and that night is open house. Then the last day is meetings all day long. UGH
I believe we get no paid days before school. We have one day of training for our new math curriculum, but I think it's not mandatory and you only get paid if you sign in...
We get 2 days before school, which are PACKED with meetings. So, no time. It is so annoying. They always want our rooms to be gorgeous, but no time to get them that way.
I don't teach in a Montessori school, but I do a lot of hands-on, integrated units which take a lot of time to plan. Right now my room is being used as storage for another room that's moving. I still go in and try to do some set up. We get paid for two set up days, though, to answer the question.
I am moving to a brand new Montessori environment. I am very anxious to see what kind of materials that is available and what I need to make or put together. We get a week, but I don't know how many days will be taken up with meetings and such.
oh I never wait until the actual week of inservice. Our inservice week is Aug. 16. I will be there a couple of weeks in advance of that to set-up (although not full days - I like to do it leisurely). We officially have 1 day to set-up - although that is after Meet the Teacher when you room already needs to be ready
I can't hide the excitement! Today was the first day of mini meetings for new hires and I saw my class! I'm completely excited and overjoyed. Not to mention I got the classroom of a retiree meaning she left behind a lot of Montessori essentials that I will not have to go out and purchase, baskets, glasses, vases, as well as supplies, notes etc! I even made a lil video of my room before I move anthing. And can I say that she was super organized and neat. Tomorrow and Friday I'm going to stay and begin moving things around... ( I want to start some before my co-teacher arrives) to get a feel for the space.
Soon as I figure out how to get my video from my phone to here I will. I started moving things around today.... OMG! Going to take a while. It didnt magically come to me how i thought. I think I'm happy with about 40% of where I placed things. I will probably wait till the co-teacher comes on Friday and Brainstorm more with her.
