Hey everyone! I just graduated and was recently lucky enough to get a final interview with a school district where I believe I'll be up against two others (there were 3 interview slots). So obviously, I'm stoked about that! However, I haven't gotten so much as a phone call from another district - just some "we got your application letters". So, I was wondering, how long did it take some of you to find your first full time teaching gig out of college? Thanks!
Graduated Dec 2004 didnt get my first teacing job until June 2006, but wasn't really seriously looking either. Was working on Masters and hubby worked overseas. Got first job 2006, worked there 2 years. Spent all of 2008-2009 school year looking for a job. Found one for 2009-2010!
Graduated in Dec 04, got a LTS in Mar 05 which turned into full time for 05-06. We moved and I had a job in June for the 06-07 school year. I resigned to stay at home with kids, and have been looking for the past two years.
I was lucky! I graduated from university in 2007 with a degree in History (more specifically Medieval religiosity). I began looking for a teaching job, and within a month had three offers. I was shocked, for me it was easy. I was given offers from one wealthy boarding school, and two poor rural schools. Where did I choose, you say? The poor urban school , I am a glutton for challenges.
I also got the job during the summer after I graduated. I had to be more selective because I also had to make sure the new job will fit with my family's needs and time schedules. I keep hearing from student teachers that there is a cattle call a couple of weeks just before school starts when principals are scrambling to fill positions (from last minute departures).
I interviewed for a position and 2 days later I was offered the job and accepted. I have been with the district ever since.
I got asked to do an interim the fall after I graduated for one of the teachers I student taught under. I did that from Aug. through Christmas Break. She came back in Jan. I couldn't find a job in the middle of the year, so I ended up going to work for a terrible time share company doing reservations. The next fall I got a job at a private school.
I teach biology/general science. I graduated in January 08, had my first interview in April 08, signed a contract in May 08, and started teaching Sept of that year. I also slacked off, I'll admit, when it came to job hunting. But I used a company for free to find me a job in a private school--- if you're interested in the link to the company, please pm and I'll send it to you.
I was one of the few fortunate Californians. I finished student teaching in May 2006 and found a job that same month for the upcoming school year. Whew--I was definitely grateful and relieved!
I got a LTS job the month I graduated (Dec 2007) and it lasted the rest of the school year. I got a regular contract for another school in July or August 2008. However, I am certified in what's considered a hard to fill subject. I am also certified in el ed and during the time I had 6-7 interviews in FACS, I had ZERO interviews in el ed.
I graduated in Dec. 1997. I subbed until Nov. 1998 when I got a job in a private school. Got a job in a public school Nov., 1999.
Graduated Aug. 07, subbed for a couple of months then landed a para position that I held until May 09 when I got a 1st grade position.
did my student teaching finish May 05 and began teaching at that school in August 05. tuaght there for 4 years and went to one interview this april and got the job (was later called for other interviews but didn't attend) my master in reading really helped
My district doesn't usually have jobs that open up until the end of the summer. I had about 15 interview calls the first day it opened up, and had a job by my second interview.
