http://www.truecrimereport.com/2011/08/republic_school_district_twice.php From the school district's answer to the complaint, "the girl failed and neglected to use reasonable means to protect her self." Seriously?
The link is blocked for me at school. Can you give a brief summary? From the quotation it sounds awful.
Urk. Okay, though it feels awful to even summarize. A 7th-grade SPED student was harassed and raped, and reported it to the school. School officials didn't believe her, made her write a letter of apology to her attacker, didn't pass the report to DYFS, and expelled her. The next year she was let back into the school, where the same boy started harassing her again. She didn't tell anyone (fearing they wouldn't believe her), and was later raped in the school library. Her mother took her to be examined and the rape was confirmed along with DNA evidence matching the boy. He confessed and pled guilty to charges. The school calls the suit frivolous. And also that the rape was caused by the "negligence, carelessness, or conduct of third parties over whom the District Defendants had neither control nor the right to control."
Let's not forget that after she was raped a SECOND TIME, they suspended her a SECOND TIME--for public display of affection. For getting raped in the school library.
I'm usually pretty tough, but I had t stop reading after the third paragraph. I'm not sure the last time I was so disgusted.
I'm speechless. Every administrator in the school, and all the way up to the super need to be charged with accessory to rape.
I feel like there must be more to this story. I can't imagine any school personnel acting in such a manner. But if this is all true then the people involved should never be responsible for children again.
If that were my little girl, I would OWN Missouri. And maybe a few neighboring states, just for good measure. How awful!
