how does this letter of resignation sound?

I have enjoyed working for HAPPY Elementary School and appreciate all the opportunites afforded to me. I will be resigning effective March 3, 2011. I will miss everyone, but will carry with me all the experience I gained while there.

Why are you quitting?

 

I think it's a short, sweet and succinct way to keep your bridges intact as you cross over them.

 

Peach, I'm moving because my husband got an amazing job in an amazing coastal town. My huhsabd has been trying to get this type of job for years after he graduated from colelge, and he finally got an interview and was hired!!! We are so happy.



Okay, I had my union rep look over my letter and she said because I am leaving before the school year is over, I need to include why I am leaving.

So, I quickly wrote it in.... I have to leave for work now.

I was going to say the same thing, that you should mention a reason. That's great for your husband, and I'm sorry to hear you have to leave. Is there any way you could stick around till the end of the year, and then move out there to be with him?

 

I think the new one sounds great!

 

I hadn't thought about explaining why you needed to resign. It makes sense to let them know that it has nothing to do with your job satisfaction but is truly something outside of your control. Go, you!

 

Fyi, this isn't a teacher job, in case you are wondering. I only work part time as a clinician. We already have two people in mind to take over.

So, I turned in the letters (three of them; one for my principal, one for superintendent, and one to the board) to my principal. I had tears in my eyes. I didn't realize how hard it would be. Thank goodness she was so understanding and even said she'll do whatever she can to help me. I LOVE my principal!

 

Congratulations to both of you, Peachy! And hugs and hugs: even though it's such a grand reason to leave, it's still leaving, and it's still painful.

 

Are you giving enough notice?

 

Yes and no. I was told by my union rep that our school had no time frame when to give resignation letters, but the typical two week notice would suffice. I had already informed my principal about this beforehand and we spoke again on Monday and that was when we decided to get my notice in so she can get started. Monday was the deadline but I turned it in Friday so that she can get started.

We already have two people in mind and with so many teachers out of work, I know this position won't be hard to fill. The principal plans to get someone in a few days before I leave so that I can start training them and filling them in on my job duties.

 

Peachy, will you be looking for a teaching position in your new town?

 

Yes. Actually, I will be looking for any job!
