How do you all grade reading? I teach third grade and right now all I have is some comprehension work in the grade book. I've done running records and such, but how do you put a grade to those? Thanks for your input
RRs can be graded in a couple of ways -- improvement over last taken, or when compared to grade level standards. Students at the 3rd grade should still be learning their Fry words, so a test on those words could also be used.
I don't grade reading but if I did, I imagine one option would be to create some kind of rubric. Have important skills that you're teaching listed and then various points that can be awarded for each. Then you can use the rubric to compute grade
I'm with MsX. When I graded oral reading, I made a rubric with such areas as smoothness, speed, clarity, volume--whatever areas you want to grade. That makes it much easier!
