You know some days can be extremely stressful. I relieve stress by listening to music, praying, writing, and reading. Being around my family also de-stresses me at most times.
I do those things as well. I also like to go for scenic drives (alone) and listen to my favorite tunes and soak up the surroundings, chit-chat with my best girl friends (we use to have girl's spa night, before we were all married and had kiddos) and take a nice relaxing bubble bath. Now that I have a 2 year old I don't get to enjoy these things as much as I once did. For a more in-depth destresser (costs a bit more, but worth it): massages, pedicures and a weekend away with my hubby for some alone time.
ms jasztal.... I am surprised that folks are peeking but not sharing!! We all can use some stress busters!! My favorite is listening to my music. Not new ones as much as old ones. Dusties..songs so old, they have dust on them! They bring back memories, good and bad. I wonder where is that man who was supposed to carry me away.... sigh... Smokey Robison gave me hope... "I will build you a castle with a tower so high, it reaches the moon... "I've got a girl on the other side of the mountain high, and that is where I should be." Guess I'll just be content in my little one bedroom condo... Who would have thought the guy singing love songs would have his own line of frozen foods! Food is another stress buster. Not pigging out!! But baking and cooking new dishes! I like to experiment, try out new things. And just make a small dish. Enough for me, and leftovers!! I used to enjoy reading. I've been in denial over my glasses for years. I just don't like them. I rather see the world the way it is. To me, putting on my glasses is just more work! It took the fun out of reading! sigh!! I also have a journal, and find it very relaxing. Sometimes, I come back to it after a long break! I'm am quite pleased to see my accomplishments, my quick recoveries, and how I document my efforts! Of course, I pray as well. Last but not least, a walk around the block is very good way to de-stress. By the second time I turn the corner, I have found solutions to my problems. By the third time, I have decided to leave them outside! I used to wonder what supervisors meant by saying "leave your problems at the door." Now I understand. I also walk during my lunch hour at work. That is good exercise and very relaxing!!!
Bubble baths, lurking on AtoZ, playing with my dog, gardening, I used to cross-stitch and crochet, but haven't done either in a while, a glass of wine (rarely), soy candles (they smell SO good!), play with my grandson (check out the "We are Grandparents" thread!), read (with my bifocals!) (get over the vanity Master Pre-K! lol), occasionally, I go shopping, lol, pray, meditate, veg in front of the boob tube
it's not vanity! I just don't feel they are part of me! For 30 years I got along just fine! I can see for miles and miles down the street. I don't wanna put something on my face just to read the cereal box! This is cereal, isn't it??? no, it's pancake mix  ok PW!!!
I did yoga a lot last year, only a couple times this summer. It's on Wednesday nights which seems to be the most stressful day for me. Now the class is 2 hours earlier and I don't know if I'll be able to make it that soon after school. I also listen to music, talk to friends/family, watch my shows, and read.
I go out to the desert and wake up some coyotes and lizards with some good Old fashioned primeval screaming it does wonders for my stress level but what really scares the Mountain Lions away is the loincloth
All kidding aside I put on some John Denver or James Taylor take a hot shower (with shower massage) and meditate in the horizontal position and If I have the money I get a massage I kind of like to say "Yesterday I had a 27 year old who couldn't keep her hands off me"
I take a bath every night; read; play with my kiddos; do scrapbooking; watch my reality shows; be with my family.
We all have to do our own recess duty at my school, so on those days that I'm stressed out during the school day, instead of standing with the other teachers during recess, I take a lap around the field. Our field is fairly large, so by the time I'm at the outer corners, there usually isn't anyone right near me, and it does wonders for any agression I may be feeling.
Exercising every day is a good one for me. People say they're too busy to work out, but I find that taking the time to work out gives me more energy and helps me be less stressed out. I also love to read books!
Long baths, listening to my iPod... those are the best. I love to listen to soundtracks to musicals. They also make me happy! I'm currently listening to Hairspray again; the movie revived it for me. I'm also a comfort eater. Gimme a big bowl of ice cream covered in chocolate syrup, and the world looks a little better.
Going for a walk, doing yoga, or working out on my elliptical. Some days I really don't feel like doing either but doing some sort of exercise *really* relieves my stress and I feel a lot better! Also, reading, hot baths, and playing with my dogs and kitty
The last two years I had a 30-40 minute commute to and from work so I used that time to destress. This year I have a 5 minute commute, but my plans are to exercise after school, cook dinner with friends, and hang out with my boyfriend watching old John Wayne movies. :haha:
i get massages occasionally. Definitely getting one before school starts, and then a few throughout the year. If I have the money, I will pay for them ahead of time so I can just go in when I am stressed.
How do I de-stress? I don't. Pretty soon I'm going to lose it and jump off a cliff. Having a really really really organized day de-stresses me. Making dinner. Diet coke. Diet coke. Diet coke. Reading (except I think I need bifocals, and I don't want them yet. I'm not even old enough to buy a glass of wine, but I need bifocals?!? What's up with that?). Walking in the desert. Did I mention diet coke? Cake. Mmmmm....cake.
I take a bath, sometimes with bubbles. I also read, A LOT! Pedicures and massages when I really need to de-stress. I love to cook too, so sometimes cooking a big fancy meal works as well as a massage. Also, Starbucks. That may not make sense, but I don't drink coffee often, so it is a treat. Just walking in and smelling it makes me feel better. Playing with the dogs is always good for a laugh and relaxation too
Talking to my husband, watching my little boys sleep at night, talking to my best friend on the phone, calling my mom, eating a bag of popcorn, drinking coffee with Vanilla Nut Coffeemate, doing Sudoku puzzles
Just got my last paycheck from the other job. Only paid me one week vacation, not two! Have to pay rent, mortgage on new condo, and association fee!! Wanted to move before I start new job and fall semester. Carpet looks like my mom's old tweed coat from the 60's. I must get rid of it before I move in. If I move in before replacing carpet, Home Depot will charge me extra to move furniture out in hall to install carpet. Just put $100 on new furniture. sorry.. Ms. Jas....... I just totally hijack your thread... My new line based on the the Minnesota tragedy is... It could be worse...my car is not hanging on a bridge. That picture is so awful!! this is so sad.... C'mon Danny...we just changed jobs! We have got to suck it up, and get out there! Let's say a prayer for everyone in Minnesota, and get off our butts! It's the 3rd day of August. We gotta do something!!! I got 4 pair of bifocals, and I refuse to wear them unless I am signing something that concerns money. You are welcomed to borrow a pair!! You know eyesight is the first to go. It's the first or second thing created after your heart, isn't it? Heart, brains, eyeballs?? Of course they are going to go bad! switch to the store brand diet cola...and save a few cents. best line of defense for stress... get off our butts and do something!!
Chinese food and good tv, word games and other games online, reading in bed with a cat and dog curled up on it.
Believe it or not washing my truck and cleaning it out destresses me. Actually I think it's just the alone time, not the actual act of cleaning my truck. I take bubble baths, time on the computer really late at night when there is NO one else up in the house.
ok folks. Just called the landlord. Asked if I could pay on the 15th, with late fee of course. He said yes. I feel better now.
I already do drink the diet sams choice. It drives my bf nuts, but it's more than $2 cheaper for a 24 pack!! Tomorrow I'm going to see my grandparents. Shopping is the great de-stressor, but my grandma might counteract the effects... Oh well, I plan on laughing at my own situation the whole drive home. I'm taking a vegetarian friend into a house filled with dead stuffed animals...and she really wants to "out" my gay uncle- "So, how long have you two been together?" Well, more than 20 years, but they're "just roommates" This should be interesting...*takes a sip of diet sams choice* I'm moving this week too. Into the house I've lived in for 6 months. I had a room I used basically for storage in one of my parents rentals, they aren't supposed to rent that house because of covenants, so they put my name down as the one who lives there. Well, they didn't ask me, I didn't want to, so I didn't. Well, they got mad and kicked me out. Gave me less than a day to move everything out. I wonder what would happen if I reported them to the neighborhood association...:| Oh well, not such a big deal I guess, I just didn't realize how much stuff I actually kept over there!!!
Great thread. I just had an eye-opening experience in my new classroom today. The previous teacher shoved everything into the cabinets and left. It took over an hour just to empty them. Plus, the school has an alarm that they set at 3:30, so I got next to nothing done (my own stupid fault....I didn't get there until 2, but I didn't know about the alarm!!) Basically, I have 2 days to get everything perfect before my meetings start. I need to de-stress..... How about some nice greasy, fattening fast food and a glass (or two) of wine and a good movie? Either that, or cry myself out and take a nap! Tomorrow's another day!!
isn't that what Scarlett O'Hara said?? :haha: I noticed a corn plant growing outside my window near my condo. Is that public property, community property, or can I harvest that bad boy when it gets stalks?? I told the condo pres. Yeah, I know that was dumb of me. It could have been my dinner for the next few weeks until I see my first check! Maybe she will forget! How long does it take corn to grow before the ears are ready for harvest anyways??
My destress list: Yoga Music Wine Bath Dancing Pajamas (on a stressful day I get giddy just thinking about them) Reading My kiddos My cats gardening The Office (or anything else that makes me laugh) Girls' Night Out!!!!!!! Pedicures Scented candles Cleaning (when I'm really mad, I power-clean)
My choices: a loooooong walk with the dog a glass (or 2) or red wine a James Taylor cd a bubble bath with candles, a glass of red wine, and a good book
scrapbooking, exercise, laying down on the couch and watching a movie (something I don't do too often so it feels luxerious when I take the time to do it)
It varies for me. Sometimes a simple hot bath at night helps. I enjoy going for walks, cooking, watching decorating shows, etc. If I have enough money and if my local day spa has a special I get massages. Back when I used to be weighed down by severe headaches I had to get massages more often. Now that those ave been tamed, I can go more for just relaxation, not the deep tissue kind that hurts.
A fat glass of wine or a strong g&t usually takes care of my de-stressing! Seriously, I try to make sure I get eveything set for the next day BEFORE I leave my classroom for the day. Then I'll go home and run two miles with the hubby and veg out....then go for the wine!
Once a month some of my coworkers get together and we go and get spa pedicures. It last for about an hour and a half. It is well worth the 55 dollars. Lately my husband and I will put in a movie and I sit on the floor and he will brush my hair. It is so relaxing.
